Hummer H3 For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.

Someone please help me identify what this part is called.

Thank you for all the replys. So I believe the part is discontinued by GM but there are some still out there.

It does not matter what you want to call it. Let's call it a Cracked Pain if the Azz.

All you need is a anything that will span the two holes and bolt down to block it off. You could make one with a metal flat bar, drill two holes and slap a gasket across it before bolting it down.

SAI (Secondary Air Injection) and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) are both emissions control systems, but they function differently: SAI injects air into the exhaust during cold starts to help the catalytic converter warm up, while EGR recirculates exhaust gas into the engine's intake to lower combustion temperatures and reduce NOx emissions during normal operation. SAI operates only briefly at startup, while EGR runs for longer periods.
Secondary Air Injection (SAI)
  • Purpose: To heat up the catalytic converter quickly after a cold start.
  • Function: A pump injects fresh air into the exhaust stream to burn off unburnt hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide, which generates heat to bring the catalytic converter to its optimal operating temperature sooner.
  • Operation: The system runs for only a few minutes after a cold start.
  • Components: Includes a pump, hoses, and combi valves that direct air into the exhaust ports.

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)
  • Purpose: To reduce nitrogen oxide (

) emissions and improve fuel efficiency.
  • Function: It redirects a portion of the exhaust gas back into the engine's intake manifold. This dilutes the air-fuel mixture, lowers combustion temperatures, and slows the formation of

    .
  • Operation: The system operates for longer periods during normal driving when the engine is warm.
  • Components: An EGR valve, which can be pneumatic or electric, controls the flow of exhaust gas back to the intake.
