I figured I would get a start on blasting all the connectors in the engine bay with CRC and plan to grease the seals when I reconnect them all tomorrow.
I took the plastic wheel well out to have better access to some connectors on the driver's side of the engine. I gained access to a couple more connectors over there as well as a ground. Is the starter on the driver's side lower portion of the engine under the intake manifold? I see something resembling a starter solenoid and its connectors all have corrosion on them.
The ground I found (I think coming from the battery) was barely touching anything. The bolt used to fasten it to the engine must have been the wrong thread pitch and was cross threaded into the side of the engine by the previous owner (who installed the 3.7L I5). I figured the bolt would break while trying to remove it (it did end up breaking off). I'll think it over tonight on whether I'm going to drill and re-tap or if I just utilize a neighboring bolt (for the engine mount) to ground it. Let me know your suggestions.
I blew out all the connectors in the engine bay and reconnected them this morning. None of them (including the fuse box connectors) looked wet.
I sanded down a nice grounding surface to reconnect the ground coming from the battery and also sanded down the connections on the starter solenoid (which were all super corroded). When I put everything back together, it started right up. I even took it back to the car wash for another beating (1: to clean off all my CRC overspray & 2: see if the water causes the issue again).
I figure the ground had "welded" itself enough to function since I purchased the vehicle and I probably blasted it loose with the pressure washer, which is what I believe was causing the sporadic issues I was having.
Now the are nearly constant P0136, P0137, and P0171 codes... Now I'll be chasing those, I'm sure.
Thank you. I cleaned both the front and rear O2 sensors and connectors. Now I'm down to only P0171 (lean). I sprayed some starting fluid around some spots while it was running to see if I could find a vacuum leak but did not find anything. Any ideas for the P0171 code?
Did you ever clean the MAF sensor connector/contacts?
I did. I cleaned MAF sensor contacts and connector a couple weeks ago. New'ish paper air filter, cleaned MAF, cleaned MAF connectors, cleaned throttle body, and installed intake tubing. I didn't grease the gasket on the throttle body when I cleaned and reinstalled it. Is it typically greased?
Just checking since your diy maf cleaner video didn't show connector cleaning. Did you pull the cops and check for moisture intrusion?
Very observant haha. I cleaned the MAF connector again yesterday, too. I did not pull the COPS to check for moisture yet. Hopefully I'll do so tonight or tomorrow when the engine is cool.
