For those of you that replaced your own radiator, where did you buy them?

Interesting my rad blew a small whole upper right hand corner driver-side between the tank and the fins, were the plastic meats the aluminum. This after only 25,000 miles! I have a colorado so the rad might be different, however they are based on the same platform as the H3. Three of the 04-06 colorados at one of our meats showed the same issue.

First, welcome!

You are INCORRECT! H3/H3T Platform is GMT 345s. The Colorado and Canyon are GMT 355s. I have nothing bad to say about the 355s, personally I have owned 3 of them in the past.

H3s only share 10% of any off the shelf GM parts. You may want to do some research before throwing out blanket statements.
-Engine, Trans and a few other parts are "similar" then the difference begins.
-Our frames aree boxed with different crossmembers and assed crossmembers
-We use mostly 1/2 ton running gear
-Etc, Etc, Etc

Your condenser is exactly the same part number, as a 09 Colorado with a V8, as is the rad, I wouldn't be surprised that the rad would be made by the same company, and therefore express similar problems.

BTW way to make a guy feel "welcome"

Maybe we got off on the wrong foot, please do not crucify me for wanting, to broaden my knowledge!! And how else would I know the differences, without coming hear to learn??

I never said I know all the differences, between the two, or that I know your trucks inside and out!

Inside and Out! That's funny sheet right there. Seems like you didn't do any research on our platform before you spewed your sales pitch and knowledge!

You came on here to sell your wares and all I am doing is pointing out what your motives are and also pointing out for my fellow HUMMER owners and forum members what little knowledge you have regarding our platform and/or vehicle differences between the H3/H3T and the Coly/Canyon. This way my fellow forum members know what they are getting into when dealing with you on a business level.

I said tell me how I can delete the info related to what I was offering, or have a moderator delete it, in fact the can delete all my posts if they want, I am sure that would make you happy!!

I am off work (compressor mechanic) with a injured hand, and I was bored, and doing research and stumbled across some (notice how I put "some" instead of "a lot".... see I do listen to what you have to say, despite, how it makes fee feel) similarities between the H3 and colorado/canyon, so I joined this forum and started posting.. and digging up damn near every engine swap thread I could find!

You should have scene how excited I was when I found the one with pictures, I grabbed my friend who helped me with mine to show him, as well!

I was just excited in finding something new to me and I didn't realize I was "necro" posting, I see that I was now, and I am sorry, I wish there was a way I could change it!

BTW I was just looking to do some stuff on the side as a hobby, just looking to cover costs for the special tools and equipment that I bought, for the colorado/canyon trucks. I realize I look like some "big shot" trying to through my stuff at everyone, this was not ever my intention I sincerely apologize!

Tainter I hope we can somehow come to a understanding, I wish not to be hatted by you or another member, the last thing I need for starting something new is to have the reputation I seem to have created! I also wish not to create or have enemies on a personal level! I do not hate you or think ill of you, however your words do hurt, and have got my blood pumping nicely...lol!

Interesting Thread.

I went to check my '08 (25K miles), and sure enough, there is some contact wear happening. While not deep, it could be a stress point.

I have done some mild offroading, nothing really heavy, other than hitting a lot of pot holes on an old logging road, just this past weekend. This is the last thing that I need to worry about when offroading deep into the mountains.

Just looking at it, one can see the bad design, having a sharp edge lip that close to the radiator. It's easy to see how the radiator can get easily damaged. I'm also no fan of these cheap plastic radiators that all the car/truck manufacturers are using now-a-days.

I think bending that lip down would be the best option and will look into it further. In the mean time, I'm bringing my H3 in for an oil change tomorrow, and I will address the issue w/them.

Thanks

A quick band aid fix is to take a piece of heater hose about 4"-6" long and cut a slit in it . Force it over the rad support faceing the rad.

GoHack,

We look forward to reading an update of what the dealership has to say about this.

Talking and showing the Hummer technician, he saw that indeed that there was contact happening.

He just so happened to have just replaced a cracked radiator from an '07 H3, which had around 100K miles on it. He showed it to me, and while it did show the contact wear from the top bracket, that's not where it failed. It was cracked along the lower right like in the picture below.

He said that this one was the first one that he had seen fail. I told him about the discussions going on about it on the net, and so he did a little research and didn't know that there was a problem out there w/them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've read, it appears to be only w/the 2007 models, is this true? the failed one that he had came from a 2007. If that true, it could of simply been a bad batch of radiators maybe.

Anyway back to my case, I had suggested somehow bending that lip down, and he suggested an easier way, by modifying the top bracket by elongating the mounting hole a 1/4 of an inch, allowing the radiator to be moved away that distance from tha edge. I went w/his idea, and he also put a strip of dense foam rubber material in there as well.

He's documented everything, and will keep an eye on my radiator when he services the H3. He's also going to talk to GM about the issue. Sadley, he's the dealership's only remaining trained Hummer technician. The dealership just lost their other trained technician, when he moved to Arizona. I'm sure that this is going to be an increasing problem for us Hummer owners.
