Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
Just replaced this morning and wanted to leave a couple of notes for the next person who may tackle this. First, absolutely take the 10mm bolt out first to release the bracket from the block. This gives you the needed ability to move the valve around to work on the clips. (in my head it makes more sense to leave it bolted up so it's stable while I work on the clips, but I couldn't access the clips) With the limited space to work with to remove this part, I ended up making my own version of a clip removal tool. Essentially I used a 6" landscape fabric stake (see pics) and filed the ends down a bit. It's worth noting that the ends were not at the same length, I had 1 about 1/8" - 1/4" or so longer than the other. This allowed to be able to wedge one side in first, then the other. With a bit of gentle maneuvering, I was able to fully back the clip out without it breaking. Also worth noting is that it may take quite a bit of effort to pull the connector off on each end afterwards. Lastly, it's worth it to have some new retainer clips on hand for re-installing the plastic wheel well liner. Even with the right tools, I broke a number of them, likely due to the age and them never having been removed before.
Just wanted to be clear about what I used the landscape stake-o-matic' to remove. It was specifically for the connection on the right side of the valve in the picture below (see red arrow). With the responses being about part numbers for the wheel well liner retainer clips, I was afraid I miscommunicated what the stake-o-matic' was for!
