While you were doing all of that, did you ever see a pcv valve?

As far as my research shows, the pcv valve is built into the valve cover so no I didn't remove the valve cover yet. Should I? That is actually my main question.

The H3 does not have a PCV valve. The vent at the rear of the I5 valve cover can get goobered up, but it is not a valve.

Make sure all the intake manifold fasteners are tightened to the correct torque.
