oil loss mystery

oil loss mystery
When I bought my 2010 I5 with 43,000 miles, it was losing engine oil at a rate I thought was very high for a young vehicle. It is still losing oil about the same rate today with 120k miles. The only leak is a slow weeping at the rear main. I've never seen smoke out the tailpipe. It is a mystery to me where the oil is going. I have to add 1qt every 2,000 to 2,500 miles (and seems to be much worse when on the highway).
Are there common causes/known issues with the Atlas engine consuming oil?

Does the slow weeping at the rear main ever drip on the ground where you park it? A buddy of mine says there is no such thing as a fluid "weep" because it is a Leak. A leak is a leak he says, and just because you do not see a puddle, you might be blowing oil off the back underside everywhere you go. What oil are you using?
My 07 never lost a drop going 9000 miles (or whatever interval the OLMS said to change it) the entire 12 years I owned it.
How does the underside from the engine back look?
Have you done a compression check?

No puddle, just a light film on the plate. This leak has actually slowed down, from what I can tell. The block is dry - no indications of any other leak.

I had a compression check done right after I bought it because of coolant loss. Compression was fine; never did find the source of the coolant loss. Some stop leak in the radiator slowed that down significantly.
I searched the forum for other owner's experience. There are a few posts, most w/o a definitive conclusion.
9k miles with 0 loss is awesome, for any engine, especially considering today's engines where mfrs say 1 qt in 1k miles is 'normal'. The greenies are in a delusion; the engines may get 2%(?) better gas mileage because of low compression oil control rings, but then you you have to add a bunch of oil between changes (if you catch the oil loss before damage is done).
