Ok, but I did tell them use regular since I didn’t know I’m not supposed to use regular oil. So if it’s absolutely necessary to use that oil, I’m eating the added expense of having to get it done again.

The manual should be more specific than just listing part numbers. If it requires synthetic, they should just say that in the manual. All it said was 5w30 and listed two part numbers.

I’ve always been under the impression that as long as the oil is changed when it’s supposed to be, conventional oil is fine.

If you came to my shop asking for conventional oil only, I would have simply told you; go somewhere else! The shop is responsible for advising/educating the customer, and installing the proper oil "RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER". Most shops have the software that shows what oil to use, when you request an oil change.
No matter the mileage it's still the same!

I still don't understand why you would go cheap on the MOST EXPENSIVE COMPONENT? New engine replacement $10k cad?

Btw, the manual shows the engine oil to use. Way back then it was 6094M.

GM introduced dexos1 certified engine oil as a factory fill and service fill for its gasoline engines worldwide. The new engine oil specification has been developed to help meet the increased demands for enhanced engine efficiency. Dexos oil helps deliver increased fuel efficiency and reduced engine emissions.

Dexos is a GM proprietary engine oil specification that has been designed to:

Further improve fuel economy and fuel economy retention through improved viscometric properties that create less friction in the engine, which allow the oil to maintain its fuel economy benefits throughout the longer life of the oil.

Provide a more robust formulation for added engine protection that offers improved oxidation and deposit-forming tendencies and aeration performance, which enables fuel savings devices, such as Variable Valve Timing, to work optimally.

Support GM’s Oil Life Monitoring System by resisting degradation between oil changes.

Ensure worldwide availability of equal quality oil while reducing the duplication of a large number of internal GM engine oil specifications, replacing GM specifications GM-LL-A-025, GM6094M and GM4718M.

Dexos1 also is backward compatible for older vehicles; however, the owner

manual oil specification in prior model years remains acceptable.

The dexos specification includes two classifications.

GM will require dexos1 for global factory fill in spark ignited engines worldwide and service fill for gasoline engines worldwide. It will replace the GM6094M specification for most GM gasoline engines.

"Dexos" came along in 2011 after the last H3/H3Ts were made. If an oil maker wants to put dexos on its jug it has to pay GM to do so, which means you and I consumer get to pay for that label. Doesn't sound like BS to me.

I didn’t know. Now I do. I will try to get them to replace it with the proper oil, and I will offer to pay the difference, but I highly doubt they will agree to it. I guess I’ll have to eat the cost if they won’t, but I certainly won’t be getting them to do it.
