Hey all. As the post implies, I'm looking to buy a Hummer H3 as something that I could work on (note: not too extensively) with my teenage son (never too young to learn). I finally test drove one this weekend and was quite impressed at how well it drove for its age. Wow did GM ever give up way too early on these!


Anyway, are there any particular items to look for that may get us in deeper $$$ than we imagine? The one I test drove did have a sunroof leak leaving the floorboard soaked, so I'd imagine there may be concerns with electrical there? Have also seen here that battery terminals need replacement. Other common issues?

With that out of the way......... I would not purchase an H3 with a leaking Sunroof. If you buy one with a Sunroof that you believe is not leaking then you need: Finally, a fix for clogged sunroof drain tubes

Do the Sunroof fix followed by replacing the crappy OEM Battery Terminal Connectors. Change out all the fluids, Trans & filter, T Case, front & rear diffs.

H3s also suffer from leaky radiators because the cheap plastic tanks either become loose where they join the aluminum body, or they crack/rub through. Check for coolant smell, level, and quality. The rest is pretty much like any other GM truck.
