New to forum-Monsoon radio issue
Hi guys, thanks for the join. I bought an H3 new back in 2007 and loved it. Kept it many years and finally sold it and wished I never had. Sooooo....decided to find another one that we could enjoy. I bought a 2009 with 107k miles and pretty clean. Runs good and no carfax damage. As I got driving it everything works except the cd player. The Monsoon radio is really good but old as we know. The cd changer will not play cds or eject, saying it is full. Not sure if there is a way to try and fix it without replacing the whole unit. Radio works great but I drive alot in the western US with no radio reception so that leaves me with nothing since I cannot plug in an ipod or attach phone via BT etc. Any help is great.
I suggest replacing the head unit with a modern double DIN with all of the modern accoutrements you are looking for.
I have used the Alpine ILX-W650 in several of our H3/H3Ts with great success. It has all of the modern amenities you could ask for including F&R camera ports and shallow mounting so you can stuff the Monsoon required interface behind it.

Second that. No programming the vin when you ditch the OEM head unit replacement.
I have the Alpine ILX-W650 along with Alpine's KTA-200M Power Pack mono sub amp (it piggy back mounts to the head unit as it is so shallow) powering my upgraded sub and still use the monsoon amp for the other 6 upgraded speakers. You can play your tunes ripped on to a USB thumb drive at high bit rate and works with Apple Car Play. Muy bien!
You need the adapter(s) recommended by Crutchfield (Crux SOCGM-17C or PAC RP5-GM11) and an Alpine Micro Bypass which will get the unit in and working with the amp, but........... you will loose a bunch of sub output by the way the adapter interfaced with the wiring which is different than the OEM head unit.
Couple threads for you to skim... there are more for you to search out.
