Just wanted to put a gravestone on this here horse....

After a lot of effort, I was only about to get 5 feet of distance from the factory key fob. I had the BCM out multiple times, messed with the antenna SMA/coax connector. I studied the BCM board and the only part that looked suspect was a component that does the frequency mixing for the transponder chip. It's a ceramic piece that you cannot test with a multimeter. It has 3 surface mount contact pads, making it hard to replace. I decided it was not worth that much effort.

I am going to install an aftermarket generic remote door lock/unlock off amazon for like $25. I'll post back when that goes in. I will probably tie that in to the BCM wires for vehicle-wide lock and unlock. I'll loose the flashing lights perk, but I could always put in a relay on a timer for the running lights or even the dome lights.

Reviews are good. And how can they even give you all that stuff for under $30? Should be a lesson for the OEM people.

My suggestion is the standard response to all the "My Fobs Don't Work" threads. Throw away the JUNK OEM Fobs, they suck even when they do work, range is short. Install an aftermarket Remote Start/Alarm because they use their own transmitter/receiver, have at least 4 times the range of the OEM, and you added a remote start.

My Code Alarm remote (installed via my 09 Alpha's prior owner) can lock/unlock the doors and remote start the ting from like 20 houses + down the street, every time, all the time. Works perfectly, got no idea who installed it, when, or how they did it, but it works.

I'm convinced and have long given up on making the OEM system work.
Thing is, it's the wife's ride and she could care less about having the FOB's working and just as long as the door locks work once she has the door open, so why bother?
One thing that does concern me somewhat is for the driver's door being the only one with the keylock, so no alternatives there.

The frequency from early 2k has recently failed on my 2007 H3. The good part NO TPMS WARNING on the dash. The bad part no key fob. I don't lock my 3 while parked in the driveway only when parked in a lot when I go to the stores. Lock with master door switch all 5 doors, close drivers door> unlock drivers doors with key-open door push unlock on master switch, works for me as I don't do many long stops with my 3.

That's the same routine we do with ours and again, no biggie.

Hmm, so if I pull the antenna out of the BCM, then the TPMS will no longer display the error on the dash? cool.

I did the key fob fix the aftermarket way and made a thread about it. $20 all in. haha. no remote start though. I may convert the "trunk pop" to serve as the engine start, but I still have the passlock and don't quite understand all it's inner workings.
