Which is the best wire to tap into for camera power? I was hoping to find the revers light further inside the rear of the truck than the tail light. I have an 07 with an aftermarket head unit that I plan on changing eventually but want to add a camera now.

I just bought a cheap well rated camera off of amazon. I plan to flush mount it to the bumper above the trailer hitch. It came with a properly sized hole cutter. I'm not sure about head unit yet, but I'm thinking one of the JVC's that do wireless android auto. Right now it has a cheap Panasonic that doesn't even have bluetooth, so that's gotta go.

 

I have that same BU camera, mounted just above the Trailer Hitch Receiver like you did wired from the Taillight Reverse wire harness using my Alpine iLX-W650, which lets me shut it off unless I need/want it. Have mirrors, will travel.

Works great for couple years now.

 

why not just tap into the hitch reverse wire. your already there.

 

My truck has a 4 pin so no reverse light wire.

 

When I did mine iirc, I opened up the harness on the drivers side behind all the plastic cr@p and soldered into the reverse wire.
I did not place my reverse camera outside the H3 but put internally. It is right under the 3rd brake light. Hard to see from a cursory search and keeps the elements off it.
This of course meant stripping the interior of a lot of plastic parts but I was already knee deep in a whole new system install. Seats came out. Headliner. HU came out. Door cards, etc...

 

You don't happen to know which wire it is, do you? lol.. that's really what I need to know to make my life a little easier
