Hummer H3 rear camera install
Need some help with how to install a rear camera in my 2010 H3. I purchased a Clarioin NX602 H/U. I have a standard audio, non-monsoon. I want to wire up the rear camera so I can put the car in reverse and the rear camera comes on. I know I can do this by running power off the reverse light using the tail light as power. But I also want to be able to turn the camera on manually through the H/U and using the reverse light as a power source will not work. I'm using a GMOS-01 Metra wiring harness which will keep my chimes and Onstar(which I'm not subscribed to) active. There is a wire in that harness that I'm supposed to connect reverse wire from H/U to. I don't know how this works and if I do this will it operate how I want. I think this will work the same as powering to the reverse light. There is a setting in the H/U that allows for selection of how the camera is activated. Any advice would be appreciated.
I think I have figured it out, but if someone could confirm it would be appreciated. I run the camera Pos(+) off Acc power. Neg(-) to ground chassis. Then run back up wire from radio(green wire) to the harness back up wire in the GMOS-01 instructions. This way the camera is always powered when ACC is on(so won't drain battery when car isn't on), it will only activate when I put it in reverse, but then I will also have the option of selecting back up camera through the H/U manually if I want to see behind me moving forward. For example, towing. The reason I want to do this is I have a small 4x8 trailer that is completely out of view of my normal rear view mirror. Please help and confirm. Thanks
[QUOTE][ There is a setting in the H/U that allows for selection of how the camera is activated./QUOTE] it says",,,"?
so ? does it let you turn it on when you want to?
it almost sounds like following the install instructions will do it.

Thanks for the response. I don't know yet. I haven't installed it. Was just trying to get info before I started the install so I wasn't wasting time. The instructions are vague for the H/U. Most people just wire the power to the tail light reverse light which I think in theory just turns the RCA video on which the H/U recognizes as on because the H/U has a designated RCA input as rear camera input. But it also has a wire for the trigger which as far as I know just goes to ground. So there are a number of ways to do this.
1) Run (+) of camera to reverse light bulb circuit, (-) to ground chassis, when you put the car in reverse it should power the camera turning on the RCA video from camera which the H/U recognizes as on and turns the screen to rear camera view. This setup will only give me rear camera when car is in reverse, but without the H/U rear camera trigger wire connected to anything, not sure if this will actually happen.
2) Run (+) of camera to ACC keyed power, (-) to ground, then H/U trigger wire to GMOS-01 designated wire. This should automatically trigger the H/U when in reverse using the car harness, but also allow me to force the H/U into rear camera view at any time because the camera will be powered all the time. What I don't know is if that H/U reverse wire actually needs (+) or (-) to trigger.
