Hello everyone just picked up a 2006 H3 and when driving the steering wheel seems to bind up a little and I just turn it a little to the left or right it frees up.Sounds like plastic is rubbing together.I tried doing a search and didn’t see anything.Anyone have this problem before and might know a fix.It has 160k on it and has been sitting for awhile.I looked under the steering column and looks like there is a bushing there I was wondering if that might be it?Any thoughts would helpful and thanks for any replies.

 

Could be the "rag joint" is deteriorating or intermediate steering shaft knuckle is worn/rusted.
Both are replaceable parts.

Look under the hood at the condition of the steering shaft U Joint/knuckle. They rust in the Great Salty North and can click or bind enough to feel that. If rusty, you can test that by lubing the joint with a penetrating white lithium grease or a multi-purpose lube to see if that changes the feel. If bad enough, might need replacing.

 

could be the lower coulumn bearing if it sounds like plastic.
