Hello everyone, I had an issue with my front diff. I took it to a shop to get it fixed. Long story short the guy "lost" all the components. I just got back the case. Are all hummer/colorado diffs the same ? I know that h3 I5 are 4.56 instead but I can buy the ring and pinion from rock auto to make it 4.11. It is a 2008 hummer h3 alpha

 

you have to run the same gears on the front and back. so figure out your rear look at your option codes.

 

I would be in court making "the guy" buy all the parts using my receipts for the replacements as the basis for what he owes, but that is another story.

NO! All H3 Hummer diffs are NOT the same. The Alpha front cases are all cast Iron (not aluminum), and it appears that you have that assuming you got your actual case back. Alphas are all geared 4.10. Buying something 4.11 is not going to do it.

At this point if I was you I would be looking at a front locker since you are building from scratch anyway. Or, just buy a good used H3 Hummer Front Locking Diff from any 09-10 Alpha and install it. Wire it to a switch to lock it when needed. The 9&10 adventures all have cast iron cases regardless if an Alpha or not, so you could use one of those and change the gearing to 4.10.

yeah the shop has multiple complains. They used to be good.
I been looking in ebay and even in junk yards alphas are hard to get. Are adventure as bad as alphas ? Going to keep an eye on adventures next time i go to the junk yard. Sorry I thought alphas were 4.11 good to know I could've ordered the wrong one!

 

Adventure packages in the 09-10 included the cast iron case with front and rear locker. The I5s have 4:56 gears. In the Alpha, it is called an Alpha Off Road, and 9-10s have front & rear lockers. Those are pretty scarce and that is why I have an 09 Alpha Off Road.

Head to a customer builder and see if you get parts that will work. i.e. randys r&p or such.

I'm NE of the Motor City, we have several Differential specialty shops around town. As suggested, you could take your case and have it built with 4:10s (locker or not, your choice) and it would basically be new.
