Default 08 h3 alpha front diff bad, what is best option of replacement?

As stated above, the front differential till is bad, just got transmission rebuilt. I am wondering what my best option is, to rebuild or get an Eaton elocker. The main problem I'm having is finding the right spec/models that will 100% fit and not mess up trans...thank u.

Welcome to HF.

I MOVED this thread as the New Member Section says it is NOT for tech questions. Why is the front diff bad? If it shattered a gear of spun a bearing, ain't no way are you going to get away with a simple add in E Locker.

The answer is simple, buy a used Alpha front diff. They all have the same 4:10 gears and are cast iron. If you want, upgrade to an Alpha Off Road front diff with the locker already inside.

If you have a local Differential Gear/Ring & Pinion service shop, then disconnect the front drive shaft, put it in Hi Lock and take it to them for the rebuild. I have had many Muscle Car rear ends rebuilt over the years, never an issue from our local shops. Better than new.

Sorry to refresh an old posting, but has anyone actually done the swap from the original aluminum front differential case to the cast iron case from the Alpha? The only reason that I was going to do so was for off-roading. Thoughts?

You could have posted up a brand New Thread with your question and linked back to this Old Thread for reference.

Yes, like 100s of times. You can find a front diff from an 09 or 10 I5 Adventure or Off Road and bolt it in, then wire a switch for the locker already in the diff you bought for the swap.

Alphas have different gear ratios so be aware of that.
