Default Fluid Change

I have searched the threads here and searched the Owners Manual (OM) for these answers. I am getting ready to change out the rear end, front axle, transfer case and transmission fluids. I only found the tranny and transfer case in the OM as far as fluid capacity and type. I see a lot of synthetic fluids that are compatible with GM. Is it safe to change to all synthetic? Does it give better overall performance? If synthetics are better, which brands do I look at and which ones do I stay away from. Do I still need to change every 50,000 miles or does the synthetic extend the life? TIA.
