Engine Code P2431 after cam position sensor change
After reading Hummerz post about what fixed it I realize but I wanted to do this a long time ago but somehow never did. Here's everything I've done so far
History ....
I purchased a 2007 Hummer about a year ago with a hundred and twenty-seven thousand miles or so. The biggest problem I had was it dying and idle and especially when applying the brake I became a member of this forum and began searching then asking advice. After receiving advice I did what I was told things got better.
Upon inspection the MAF assembly was horrendous....it was completely covered with filth. It gave me and hope to know that this was most likely the issue and hopefully that cleaning would resolve it.
I switched out the MAF sensor it looks pretty bad to the eye and had a "remanufacture" sticker on it) and thoroughly cleaned the MAF assembly. I changed out the spark plugs and installed a new "Specter" reusable air filter (Arizona is pretty dusty...). I pull the cam position sensors intake and exhaust side and visually inspect them... to the best of my knowledge and without extensive testing..... the sensors look okay to the naked eye, not worn out afraid or anything like that. I pull another sensor can't remember the name of it but I pulled out near the intake side cam position sensor and it has screens it was maybe 3 in Long and circular like a metal bar. The screens is look good everything looks fine as best as I can tell. After all of this the truck runs great and I'm very happy and thankful to all the help I received on this forum.
Things Ran 100% better for about 5000 miles, then I start having a lot of vibration issues and the engine starts stalling again. I pop the hood and have my brother stand to the side to look at the engine for me while I brake press the truck and tap the gas... I really didn't need him standing there because I can see from behind the wheel through the hood opening that the entire engine jumped to the right (passenger side)... like trying to jump out of the engine compartment like a huge jump!! I climb under and take a look at the motor mounts and they look shot... I can see cracks in the rubber and the light going through them. I changed out the motor mounts which I purchased through GM. The reason I paid more for the OEM Mounts is because I did not want to have to do this job again... not that I don't trust AutoZone's Duralast lifetime guarantee but anyway you know......So changing the motor mounts was a pain in the *** for me but it was definitely worth it because it's really helped, no more vibration and the engine is running better.
So now I'm at a hundred and forty four thousand miles and I'm here at this point..... engine starts running rough again same problems as before not as bad though. I pull the MAF sensor and the MAF assembly and clean them neither one was bad just a little bit of grime. Doesn't really help anything though, idle problems might be slightly better but that's it nothing like it was the first time I did it. Granted I need to mention there have never been any engine codes at any time during any of this work, so I guess now it's good to know that my check engine light actually works LOL. I do some more research and decide to change out the cam position sensor on the exhaust side simply because it helped other people's trucks when doing this even if they had no check engine lights.
I switched out the cam position sensor on the exhaust side and it really seemed to help my rough idle issue. Really runs better I'm very happy . Of course at this point I should have just left things alone but hell..... I'm on a roll and I enjoy being in the garage anyway right?????!!!?? So....a few weeks later I switched the cam position sensor on the intake side for good measure.....2 days later I got the code....P2431 .... It's all about the secondary air system but it seems strange that it happened after I changed the intake sensor. Coincidence or not? Any help appreciated thanks!
