Hummer H3For the Hummer driver who wants the rugged look and off road capabilities of the Hummer, but in a smaller size and with a more fuel economy friendly engine.
New to me '07 base H3. Previous owner installed an aftermarket radio with back-up camera capability. Someone at some point removed the camera, but the wires are run to the back of the vehicle.
I would like to add this back in. I've looked at a few cameras, but the selection is vast. Has anyone installed a particular camera that they really like and that worked well for them? Hookup is RCA.
Also, is there a particular mounting location that has worked well? I've seen some that are incorporated with a license plate holder; seems this might be the easiest? The spare tire presents issues for typical locations.
I've used the one that mounts to the license plate (technically illegal in Florida, but no one has ever hassled me). They're super easy to install, especially if you've already got the wiring, and they're super cheap (at least mine was). They're not great in terms of quality, and they deteriorate over time, so be prepared to replace it. At least, that was my experience. Literally only like 20 bucks though, and it did exactly what it was designed to do.
The only reason I would not want the hitch camera alone is that I trailer.
When I want to back my rig up to a trailer I can't have a hitch cam and a ball hitch on at the same time.
Broken Halo, that chrome camera cover on the center cap is a nice custom touch!
Thanks all for the responses. I'm going to try a license plate camera when it arrives this week.
But that spare wheel mounted camera looks awesome! It also avoids what I would consider to be the downsides of a license plate camera (at least on the H3):
low viewpoint
off center
Both make this not that useful to back up to a trailer. But that spare wheel mount would be perfect. Is this custom, or was this made with available off-the-shelf parts?
