Default 2008 h3 alpha just stopped recording milage

I know this has been talked about before but my 2008 h3 alpha stopped recording miles. I can switch back and forth between trip and odometer but they do not go up. No engine lights or codes

Please ask your question once and wait for a reply.

Your instrument cluster (odometer) is not communicating with your BCM. If everything else works, and you have zero electrical Gremlins, I would bet it is the cluster, not the BCM.

sorry I didn't think the first one posted, I am new to the forums and I'm sorry for the double post. Thank you for the reply! I bought this used and they said the bcm was replaced by a local shop. They said the oem key fobs don't work so they installed a viper alarm system. The odometer does not move, and same with the trip. So you think it's programming issue with the bcm? Thank you very much in advance

My bet is the cluster NOT the BCM.

Go ask the local shop that did the work what happened when the installed the new replacement BCM if you still think that is the issue. The BCMs do not loose track of miles, the cluster is not getting the updated communications from the BCM as to mile traveled. Might be a bad connection at the BCM.

Let me ask, does your H3 have a sunroof?

yes it does, the original owner stated the drain plugs got clogged and the original bcm got damaged. So when they replaced it they said the original key fobs didn't work and neither did the odometer. Then they installed a viper alarm system for the key fob. So I was thinking maybe it was not programed properly?

there might be a vin mismatch between the BCM and cluster. so you might need to have them reprogram the vin on the most likely used BCM
it should then give you your mileage counter back

Did you change the 'Crappy Azzed' battery terminals?

The body control module (BCM) calculates the mileage based on the vehicle speed signal circuit
from the powertrain control module (PCM). The BCM then sends a class 2 message to the IPC
indicating the value of the odometer.
If the actual mileage that is stored in the BCM is greater than the value stored in the IPC, the odometer reading will not update until mileage that stored in the BCM is reached.

I think you are onto something know that we know the clogged sunroof drains killed the original BCM.. I have not done it, but others have said you can plug and play a used BCM and it may work if from the same vehicle & year etc.... but if the used Vin had higher miles, the Odo won't change until they match miles.

Yep, used BCM.....
