"RTC Fail" resolved

It seems the firmware doesn't allow for the year to exceed 2019, when the year goes over e.g. 2020,21 etc that's when "RTC Fail" pop's up.

May be it's just a clone issue....?

Also I'm wrong about the Set Clock not doing anything, it does. However there is no feedback, e.g no display changes or beep, so it "appears" to do nothing, my mistake.

I would guess he has at minimum a basic SMD hot air rework station..... You can get the Chinese ones on Amazon with a built in power supply and soldering iron pretty cheap. I have one. As little as I do it works well but the power supply part died and I have not had a chance to look into it and for regular soldering I still usually go my my old Weller soldering station.

If I was doing SMD rework for a living I'd get a Weller or Hakko rework station but those get into big $$$, particularly if you start messing with BGA stuff and need IR preheating and whatnot.

You've got it one, I have a Weller system, but I only do simple stuff, sometimes a BGA.

For the record I hand soldered the chip back in, used hot air to remove the old one to preserve it in case it wasn't bad I needed to re-use it. Looks better that it is.

Cool, I'd like to learn more board level electronics repair but there's not much training available. There's a microsoldering class nearby but they want huge money for the class. around 2100$ for a week.

i think i paid about 160 bucks at the time for the hot air station. the soldering iron i bought from radioshack years ago for 80 bucks. you can get pretty decent hakko clones on ebay for cheap they use T12 tips that you can interchange. KSGER brand can be found pretty cheap and work well from what hear. dare i say better then all the old brands like weller / hakko
good flux is the key to micro soldering i use amtech no clean flux and a soldering tip you are comfortable with. a j tip or a chisel tip also help.
the only way to learn is to get your hands dirty. pull a board out of anything and practice on it. that is how i learned in the 80's. dad had a tv/radio shop and he used to put me to tear down part machines.
so if you really want to learn break some **** , burn it down whatever just time and practice will make you better. an expert knows many more ways to get things wrong then a novice LOL its experience. he will know 200 ways to fry some ****... because he has borked it 200 times LOL and is still willing to learn the 201 way.
just get the tools and get out there. Eff the class.... youtube helps as well.

Hi....you can Hot Swap a pcmcia card, yet windows might give you a disengaged gadget cautioning window. I have a few PCs and numerous various peripherals that interface utilizing pcmcia and I have never had a issue.
Notwithstanding, I have never had outside RAM on a card so I can't address how this would act. I likewise have not utilized the pcmcia connector that converts to USB ports, so I likewise don't have the foggiest idea how this would act.
Despite the fact that you might have, even from a pessimistic standpoint case, a framework crash there ought to be no equipment harm.
