going to be bleeding the brakes and putting in some new fluid, since i am draining all of it. should i stick with dot 3? or is it better to upgrade to dot 4? or dot 5 etc

i can get this pretty cheap from rock auto so will prob go with this unless you guys recommend the delco fluid over aftermarket but what ive heard is all brake fluid is essentially the same!

 

Dot 3 is compatible with 4 and 5, difference is boiling point. Dot 5 will not absorb water so that's the biggest advantage. I don't think you can completely remove all the old fluid without having a Tech2 to bleed the anti lock but I'm guessing. When I upgraded my brake system I went with Dot 4 and just bled the snot out of the system.
