Default Need to identify wire

I pulled the radio last week to replace the steering wheel control module and add some new wiring to it. By the time I got it done I had installed and reinstalled it a bunch of times. The last time I put it all back together I noticed a single white wire coming over from the passenger side behind were the radio sits. It had a bare conductor on the end. It is shielded and is insulated in the grayish foam. I figure it is some thermostat wire and came out of one of the plugs but can’t find a plug that appears to be missing a wire. Anyone got a clue what this may be. Everything works fine, as far as I can tell, but there are so many sensors and such.

thanks

ted

it might be an antenna wire for Onstar or if your vehicle came equipped with factory navigation radio then maybe is the gps antenna. usually shielded wires are either antenna or data lines.

I hope it is onstar. I pulled that out and installed a switch panel. It wasn't coax (antenna). I used that wire and it did not have the foam around it like does. It was only a 16 gauge wire that was shielded but wrapped in that foam that I though was for insulation to keep the wire from banging around. Well, I guess I better pull the panel off, again which means pulling the center console. I want to fabricate a new strip the shifter handle fits in. I have done this so many times I have made a little jig to cut out the foam between the console and the front panel

Thanks for the response. I will take a pic.

It is almost tempting to cut the center dash panel at the console level and add some sort of lower retainers for it so the stupid console does not have to come loose just to get the dash open. lol

I know, I have followed your upgrades and know how many times you have pulled that sucker.

i am sitting in the truck now and looking at it. I have not put the screws back in the shift handle for over a year😀

there is one one thought I had. One could cut the cover directly under the gasket between the front console. I think you could then pull the panel without loosening the middle console.
