Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Default Mirrors...Mirrors....Mirrors...What a Pain.

Did serch's on the driver and passenger side Mirrors. Man... There are a ton of threads here. Mine is a 2009 H2 SUV Lux. My passenger side mirror is starting to have problems in the up down mode. It's off and on. Sometime no problem... then to day it starts sticking in the up and down or vertical mode. In the the Horizontal mode it will operate generally ok. But there are times when it sticks. So I got ticked off and exercised the glass up and down and back and forth. that seemed to work but the passenger side just stuck after a few movements.

A futile attempt to un stick the motors. But we all know that don't work... It would be nice if you could just squirt some WD-40 in there and make it work.

I did watch Youtube Video on what looked like an 08 or 09 door panel removal. But it was in Spanish with subtitles. After thinking about this whole problem ....I think the best cure is... not to try and replace the internals of the mirror assemblies ..but to buy two brand new driver and passenger side assemblies and take it to a dealer.

Don't have to much more warm weather so I'm not about to rip off the door panels and install new ones myself. So.. anyone have a source for new ones at a good price. I have ripped the dash apart doing work inside there but I just don't feel like dealing with this problem.

Thanks:

Hey Mark, best bet may be just to purchase a used one off ebay for a few hundred dollars. There is someone who still sells them brand new for 1200 or so. There is a video on youtube called like reset tahoe mirrors. You have to press hold down the adjustor. Try this video first gl.

Thanks Vax's

The 2009 mirror controls are different. There is a switch which rocks to the left and turns on an LED in the button switch. That indicates that the Mirror up down left right is now selected for the left then below is a seperate switch that is the button that controls the direction you want the mirror to go. There is also a seperate switch that folds Both Mirrors at once. It is function Open or Closed depending on which direction you move that switch.

The Video you posted has those functions in the one button . By pressing down you select the fold mode if I remember correctly. But I will try the reset thing using the instructions. I have moved the passenger side manually ..so maybe this will help. Thanks for the research.

Ok VAX,

Went out this morning and selected right mirror(The one that has the V & H Problem.) More Vertical than Horizontal. Anyway After the LED in the switch was lit I hit the fold in button. I did that Three times.. folding in and folding out. On the fourth try (Just for S&G'S) nothing happened for about 1 second and I heard some clicking. Than the mirror folded in. I folded it out and ...........Now the right mirror is working OK!!

Don't know how long that will last. I'm still gonna order a left and right to have in case they S_ _T the bed.
So Again thanks for your help.

EDIT:
Here is a Pic of the 2009 H2 Mirror Controls. Notice the small square in the switch which is the indication for "ON" on the side you select on the control switch.

Most likely scenario: It is the round shaped mirror motor behind the glass that is failing. Very common problem with GM vehicles. About $80 for the part from what I recall. You do not have to remove anything except the mirror glass. (Careful of the attached pigtail) It’s a 25 minute job if you can get the glass off without breaking it.

yes, for some reason folding and unfolding the mirrors makes that motor work longer. But it will eventually fail, and it is telling you it is about to fail completely. They typically only fail in one axis, either horizontal or vertical adjustment. Usually not both at the same time.mine behaved exactly like yours before replacement.

Thanks Finall:
Well since I have done the folding and unfolding with the engine running the pasengerside is working fine. Hasn't skipped a beat yet. The driver side is fine. I am in the process of pricing out a new set from my contact at the dealer. I should get the dealer employee price. Still it will be big bucks. But Since parts are getting scarce, I'll just buy them and deal with a failure when it happens.

I know the repair thing is the way to go but running the risk of breaking the glass is still there. And then Where are you? Is the Mirror glass sold as a separate item? If not then your back to square one. Buying a used unit from Flea Bay or somewhere else. Also the (If you buy it ,the original will never fail) syndrome might apply here.

Ever buy a spare and never need it. Is it possible the mirror motors will not poop pout? Who knows. If it were an easy rebuild I would buy the Motor assembly and do it. The simple fact that the mirror could break on removal stops me from attempting to repair it. If it fails and I install the new unit I have bought then I would attempt to do the repair on the bench.

Food for thought.

You are correct. That is exactly why I had the dealer do mine. Was not expensive, as it is very quick procedure.
They have lots of experience with removing same mirror setup off their other vehicle models.
I do not suggest that people attempt this themselves, as per YouTube videos that make it look simple.

Yep..When it comes to doing certain things my 2 goes to the HUMMER dealer. Not having a large enough garage ( Never Been In One at Home) always outside. Any work that I have done is at the local shop for simple stuff or I do it myself but only in the summer. I just did GM FNC rotors and pads. But done at the local shop. When it comes to Computer Check Engine... I scan the code and if it's a simple fix I do it or run into the local shop.

Had the Crankshaft Position sensor replaced at the local shop along with the knock sensors that went after that. It much easier to go to the dealer and sit back with a nice cup of coffee and donut and watch TV in a nice comfortable chair and lay out some cash and drive home with warranty on the work just performed if it's beyond the local shop.
