Hummer H2For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.
Where: Side mirror on drive side.
Issue: Power mirror will adjust up and down but not sideways with door switch. I see this seems to be a common problem, not just with H2, but all GM trucks.
What I know:
1. Door switch operates Passenger side mirror both vertically and sideways OK
2. Door switch moves Driver side mirror up and down OK
3. Door switch folds mirrors and unfolds mirrors OK
4. When trying to move Driver side mirror sideways, I get a tiny flicker in motion sideways. Almost like the motor gears slipping. Sometimes nothing at all.
Diagnosis:
Based on #4 above, guessing it is the motor and not the door switch?
The bad and ugly:
1. Dealer wants $200 just for labor to replace it. Plus cost of motor.
2. I am hesitant to try to pop off the heated mirror myself, as they were $700 Canadian, but are now discontinued. I do not want to break it.
3. Is it really that expensive and discontinued by GM? It is not like you can just stick on replacement glass, right? It is heated.
Watched a youtube video of a guy popping off a heated mirror by prying it off with a screwdriver. Made me hesistant to try that.
Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. best place for an ORIGINAL GM replacement motor? Anywhere in USA? I believe it is part # 19167560 for an 07 H2? Anyone know?

mirrors, mirrors, mirrors, they are such a pain...
...fairly confident the 2007 similar to the earlier designs, in terms of motor and planetary gearset and will almost certainly be the issue (got a box of broken ones here)
You may struggle to find motors, although the later ones are more common, found this ebay advert which may be the same as yours.
Have removed several H2 mirrors without issue, levering with a wide plastic panel removal-tool along a smaller edge normally does the trick.
However just like an expensive vase, its the only item you ever break accidentally, so just pretend it's only worth $5 and you'll be fine
I have the same issue... got the H2 out of storage this summer, replaced the battery, and both mirror motors were having issues. One would not go up/down... the other would not go left/right. I had a battery replaced, and I am thinking maybe those motors got a surge of some sort. The first thing to check is the mirror motor. Just replaced one yesterday. WARNING: The mirrors on the 08/09 H2s are fast becoming rare. The glass is no longer available from dealers, and the entire assembly is no longer available. These mirror motors are still available from the dealer. If you break the glass, it will be a journey to find a replacement. Ebay is the source as these pop up occasionally from wrecked H2s. The Passenger side glass is nearly impossible to source independently of the entire assembly, which typically go for $300-$600 on eBay. Agree, that since the part is available, unless you are comfortable with removing the glass, then the dealer can do this for you but due to the age, they probably will not take responsibility if the glass breaks. If you use a dealer, make sure to tell them to take extra care as they may not be aware that the glass is no longer available.
NOTE: Burco sells glass replacement for both the H2 driver and passenger side, but not the plastic back that attaches the glass to the rest of the assembly... Their glass is taped to the original broken glass which is just a janky solution. Probably worth its own post, but it may be possible to pull the old glass off the plastic backing and glue the Burco glass to that.
The 2007/2008/2009 Mirror Motor Part Number = 19167560. The same part number is used on the left and right mirror. I always get my OEM parts from GMPartsdirect.com. Good dealer, fast shipping. Here is the link: https://www.gmpartsdirect.com/oem-pa...motor-19167560
Approach:
1. Use the buttons that still work to try to get the mirror outside edge as open as possible to allow you to get either four fingers under the mirror or to use a pry tool under the mirror. Something large and flat so you do not apply a single pressure point that could break the glass. A plastic pry tool used for interior trim will work, or a wrench should work. I prefer fingers so you don't damage the mirror frame.
2. When prying the mirror off, do not touch the clips or the plastic flange on the back of the mirror glass... they are brittle and will crack... just apply pressure to the flat plastic backing. Eventually there will be a pop on one side and then you can wiggle the rest of the mirror off. Here is a video on how to pop the glass on the older H2, but similar on 08/09 -
. My 08 mirror didn't move around as easily as is shown in this video. Wear latex gloves in case the mirror cracks.
3. There are several wire connectors to the rear of the mirror, so do not yank the mirror away. Disconnect and place that mirror somewhere safe. The Dimmer connection on the Drivers side mirror is seriously difficult to remove... be careful not to break anything. Do not pull the heater wire up as the connectors are just glued other mirror. Use a screwdriver to pop those off - see photo below.
4. There are three screws holding the mirror motor in place. You need a Torx T10 bit to get those out. Take a photo of the position and orientation of the motor so you can replace it in the same orientation.
5. Unplug the motor from its connector, and install and connect the new motor -- making sure that it has the same orientation as the original. The Torx screws attach to plastic... do not over tighten... tighten until tight only.
6. Reattach the connectors to the mirror glass.
7. Pop the mirror glass back on, which is 10x easier than getting it off. I would recommend aligning the bottom and pressing upward to press the top -- this works best to allow you to keep the heater wires behind the motor. Get the bottom clips onto the motor bottom edge, then press the rest onto the motor, a good thump with you hand should get it back on.
Photo of the motor
Photo of the drivers side with mirror glass removed. Here you can see the three Torx screws that hold the motor to the assembly.
Photo of the back of the mirror glass. You can see the clips that hold the mirror to the motor and the circular flange that you need to steer clear of...
To get the mirror heating connectors off is actually pretty difficult to remove, and you don't want to pull them up. You can wedge a screw driver under the edge and lift them off.

Quick update on my 2008 mirror motors.... I just fixed one of the motors. It appears that the motor does not have protection from being turned inward or outward too much. It can be overextended - poor design. If moved to the left or right too much it will break. So I have one motor that is broken, and one that is stuck.
If the motor moves freely like in the video I posted above, then it is broken. Unclear if that can be fixed. I replaced with a new one.
Here you can see that one of the prongs from the flange is stuck under the edge of the motor base plate. All I did was press hard from the inside and it popped back into position. Now working fine.

While I was replacing the motors, I noticed how dirty the mirror housing was. I took this opportunity to get them clean. The housing surrounding the mirror is a clamshell design that is held onto the mirror motor frame with 4 screws. When I pulled mine apart for cleaning a bunch of debris came out -- sand, dirt and other small debris. The mirror housing is not water proof or water tight. It does not snap together. If you need to replace the motor, I would say take that opportunity to clean the mirror housing... the entire mirror assembly does not need to be removed from the door for cleaning.
Instructions below are for the 2008/2009 mirrors, however I believe the 2007 mirrors may have the same structure.
(A) Pull the mirror off the motor. If this has been done once before, then the mirror pops off more easily. If the mirror has never been removed, prepare for a struggle. I have instructions up above. Photo shows that the drivers mirror has two connectors.
(B) Remove the mirror motor. This is held in place with three T10 screws.
(C) Remove the four T15 screws that hold the housing together. The frame is a clamshell design. Use masking tape on the top seam to hold the frame together. Once the four screws are removed, the plastic frame will immediately come apart and the tape will prevent them from falling to the ground.
(D) When the two halves of the mirror housing are removed, all that will be left is the mirror frame that it is pressure mounted to.
Cleaning: My mirror frames had wax residue and water stains -- I used Mr. Clean Magic Eraser which worked well and did not damage the plastic. Here is what the pieces look like from the passenger side mirror when pulled apart and cleaned. It would be pretty straight forward to black out the H2 chrome emblem since that piece pops right out of the housing. Project for another day for sure.
Follow the instruction in reverse to put it back together... just make sure you don't strip the holes since these screws just go into plastic... I go counter clockwise until the screw falls into place and only tighten until tight...

SO - there are two risks to pulling the mirror out. Just so you have all the info before you mess with your mirrors.
1 - You can potentially crack the mirror. I think the risk is less if you use your fingers than if you use a pry tool. The mirror glass if fairly thick and is reinforced with a plastic frame and so is very sturdy.
2 - You can rip apart the mirror motor which is a base screwed to the mirror housing and a top piece that the motor moves around and pivots the mirror. Photos below are me ripping the two halves of the mirror motor apart while trying to pull the glass. Luckily, the mirror motors are still available for replacement.
In addition to replacing my mirror motors, I took the opportunity to replace the passenger side glass which is special convex glass for a wide field of view. Whoever owned the H2 before me had replaced it with flat drivers side glass since the OEM passenger side glass is no longer available and very difficult to find used. I found an entire used passenger side assembly on eBay, and needed to pull the glass. That glass had never been removed from that motor. No matter how I wiggled it would not budge. I forced it with four fingers under the edge with equal weight and pressure and the motor cracked in half. Luckily... I did not need that motor, only the mirror.
Top half of the mirror motor stayed on the glass. What holds it to the base are those two white plastic connectors... so that is the point of failure Can use a screwdriver to get the top half of the motor pulled from the glass.
