Hummer H2For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.
For clarification, I should have stated in my post that my 2008 H2's outside passenger mirror folds in and out properly.
The mirror glass itself will not adjust up or down or side to side; however, I can hear it's electric motor which runs constantly regardless of the mirror adjustment switch's position. Disconnection of the battery is required to stop the mirror's motor.
It appears to me that there is a disconnect between the mirror's motor and it's switch as the switch fails to interrupt the power to the motor. Furthermore, there must be a disconnect between the motor and the plastic mounting plate for the mirror glass.
if the mirror is not moving in any direction and no end limit clicking then the posts to the motor are probably disconnected or snapped. or the gears inside the motor is stripped / bad is the scenario i am thinking. the motor keeps running because it is trying to find the home position. but i would think it should have a timeout limit. not run indefinitely
I have not looked at mine but see if you can turn off memory presets, the mirror may be trying to go to a preset position but is broken and can not get there.
If you can turn off presets then it should stop trying to reach a designated position
So here's the thing, the '05 mirror, as shown in bronxteck video, I know in great detail about, everything from the DDM electronics (Power Window Switch) power-fold motors+mechanism to the mirror-glass actuator motor mechanism.
However I have no info about the '08 DDM, mirrors and power-fold arms etc, it would be really good to know if the internal mechanics are fundamentally the same and some pictures would help tremendously.
The '08 Driver Door Module on the right looks different, especially in layout as you can see below. The electronics could well be different too, also the '08 DDM seems much cheaper, almost half at $87
For the '05 system, only a DDM IC driver chip fault would cause the motor to keep running. If your mirror select switch & 4-way control pad work OK for the RH mirror, then it possibly is a DDM chip fault (as you say a "defective switch").
If the mirror is not physically stuck completely in one direction, then supposing the mirror-glass actuators operate the same way, it could be the actuator pinion-gears that are stripped/broken (common on earlier hummers) unfortunately spare gears/parts are not available (yet)
Unfortunately I've never seen an '08, a rare part over here in the UK, so any view of the actuators would be very welcome (it's easy to remove the glass)
Your actuators may be similar to a "Tahoe Yukon Suburban" which had improved connectors, slightly different potentiometers and PCB (but it's just a guess, I could be talking rubbish) :-
On the left underside image you can see the trim-potentiometers+pcb (mirror position sensors), on the right image (top-side) you can see the 2 little white rack and pinion gears, usually it's the latter that break. Also on the right you can see a large black "arrow" shaped part which I call a "pivot-beam" as the cup the glass fixes to "rocks" about this, again this is a common part to break as is the plastic horse-shoe shaped lips that hold it in place.
