Default H2 LSA conversion

Hi all,

I have just recently purchased a new LSA (6.2 litre super charged engine 430kw) from General Motors Holden who have stopped production of all motor vehicles here in Australia. This engine is actually from the Holden Special Vehicle (HSV) department who produce all our go fast racers cars. Also with it comes the stronger 6 speed auto (6L90e) transition to handle the extra power.

I have no issues fitting the engine and auto into my 2005 H2, however the electrical wiring is another issue. I would like assistance with resolving this issue as I want all my existing electrical services to be able to communicate with the new running gear, I don’t want to sacrifice anything, ie dashboard cluster, ABS, crusecontrol etc.

The dashboard cluster can be changed with the 6 speed version in a Silverado, the LSA which is effectively an LS3 with a super charger is already fitted into the later model H2 with the similar 6 speed auto as I have, so it should be do able . The stansfer case can either be a new unit similar to the later model H2 or my own rebuilt, I don’t care, what ever one suits the electrical design better, as this is the key to a trouble free system and a daily driver.

So if anyone knows of any similar successful installs, I would appreciate their details and/or any details on a good auto electricians who would have the experience to provide technical advice and a suitable wiring loom to suit.

Thank you all for any assistance you can provide.

I would think it would be a pretty straight forward swap in a 08/09 H2 other than the transmission tail housing and output shaft being the wrong one and length for a 4WD/AWD. Electrically though I'd think it would work and use the same type of PCM, etc as that engine is electrically designed for the newer CAN bus electrical system. Putting that in an 03-07 H2 is also doable but electrically everything is different and I personally have no idea what would be involved. I'd imagine you would have to extend certain sensor wiring, etc like the knock sensors are in a totally different place on the newer engines and find out if a 6.2L tune is available for the older style PCM. As you mentioned, the instrument cluster from a truck physically fits just fine (have to use the front lens part from the H2 cluster is all) and year for year the truck clusters should plug right in and work fine but in the same electrical issue a 03-07 truck cluster will not work in an 08/09 model.
