Headlight Switch with Buttons for Light Bars
I saw a post from 2014 by Citiboy on changing out the headlight switch for one with two extra light buttons.
He claims this was from a 2009 GMC Acadia, but I cannot confirm that. Looking through every site even rock auto, it isn’t there. There’s one with a blank, one with 1 fog light button and another with the heated washer button. Though it seems to be an oem acdelco part.
so my plan is to hook the light bar to the big light button in the center, then use the button below the dimmer to tie the light bar into the high beams when it is pressed. Since these are both momentary buttons, there needs to be a latching relay system. Citiboy referenced making your own with a couple of diodes and some relays, and the possibility of some eBay options. However, I went the cheap, unreliable route using some small Amazon latching relays that were $10 for a two pack. One thing to note is you MUST use a relay to activate the latch. It uses a low voltage two wire connection that should not be grounded or connected to 12v.
One thing I really want to figure out is how to make the small led on the smaller switch to illuminate when the relay is engaged and the lights are connected to the high beams. I’m not sure if the led runs on a full 12v from a pin in the back(that’s my assumption though) or if it runs on a lower voltage that would normally be controlled by the BCM. I also don’t want to go checking pins because I’m not sure if the blue backlighting runs on a lower voltage. Again, I assume not, but I’d rather not break it if I can. I cannot find any data on the pin data or wiring for any of these headlight switches.
Also does anyone know if high beams are controlled through the positive or ground? I’m hoping this part can be done with just a fuse tap.
I will not be tackling this myself, southern off-road in down here in GA are going to figure it out, but I want to have at least some information on this switch for them if I can. I’m sure they could figure it out, but I’m curious myself quite honestly. I’ll provide some links here-
