That how I corrected the speedometer on my old truck when I put larger tires on it. Driving with the cluster apart, needle off and used a GPS then stuck the needle back on in the right spot. Worked perfect!
Seems like the easiest and cleanest solution. Its more important they are accurate at operating temperature then when warming up.
I need to pull the cluster anyway to replace led's that are way to blue with some that are ice blue or white. I attached a picture, the photo really doesn't show it but they are almost purple.
