Hummer H2For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.
I have a 2005 H2 and I had to replace the mirrors. My old mirrors were the ones that were chrome on the back. The new mirrors are the ones with the H2 on the back in chrome. they are heated and folding. Here is my qustion to those of you with the new mirrors. The drivers side on the mirror it self has a black plastic trim around the mirror. The passanger mirror does not have the plastic trim around the mirror. Is everybody like this?
I noticed that about mine and assumed one was original and the other was replaced with aftermarket. Actually I removed the mirrors and found out the guts r different too.. 1 (driver side) has 2 connections and the passenger only has 1 connection. I was told the 2 connection mirror is for heat and auto dim feature so I guess the passenger is just heated or auto dim only. Not really sure. When I get to my shop in tomorrow I will send pictures of both mirrors to see if they are identicle to yours. Have you looked at the guts behind the mirrors? This is passenger mirror with only 1 connection. Guessing it’s for heat... This is the back of the passenger mirror with only 1 connection This is the driver mirror with 2 connections (heat & auto dim)
I just read that the auto dim works off of 1 sensor which is located on the left mirror so hopefully that is correct and would explain why left mirror has 2 connections (auto dim heat) and right mirror only has 1 (heat)
Thanks for the illustrations. Gives me somethiong to think about. I had an 05 HU2 SUT. Thank God, the only electronic/electrical issues I has was the module that controls the radio went out on me and my turn signals were blinking too fast. Both issues were operator errors. I had a double-din Pioneer head unit istalled correctly, but these H2'a don't take too kindly of aftermarket parts being installed. The turn signals blinking too fast was the previous owner went LED all the way around the HUMMER. It didn't bother me, but here in little ole Delaware, it's a saftey failure. I really miss my 05 H2.
The drivers and passenger mirrors are constructed differently. For the 07/08/09 series the following are true:
* The mirror motors are identical (part 19167560). They are just oriented differently when installed. This motor is different from the 03-06 mirror motors.
* The drivers mirror (part 19167555) is flat and heated. Due to the heater, there is a plastic ring glued around the mirror glass. You will know it has been replaced when there is no ring around the glass OR if it is not heated and does not support on the connectors -- new replacement glass is NOT heated. OEM glass will also be manufactured by Gentex and will have a number etched at the center bottom of the glass that begins with "GNTX"
* The passenger mirror (part 19167554) is convex for a greater field of view and does not have a heater. It does not have the plastic ring around the edge and you can see that the glass is just glued to the plastic backing plate.
ALSO - for those of you planning to upgrade mirrors... the issue with the early series mirrors is that the motor is at the bottom of the shaft to open and close the mirror. Since the mirror assembly is NOT water tight, water accumulates around the mirror motor and eventually kills it. The updated 07-09 mirror has the motor at the top of the shaft in a fairly water tight enclosure (see pic #4 below).
@SHOCKTROOP40 Sounds like you don't have the H2 anymore, but there is a solution for the hyper flashing issue for your next H2! When LEDs are used in the blinkers, they will blink at the wrong rate because of load differences with the OEM candescent lights which have a higher load. The relay is reliant on that load to trigger the blink rate. LEDs change the equation and the system creates that flashing to alert you that either there is a light out or there is an electrical problem. I believe there are two solutions dependent on the model year:
H2 03-07 (GMT800 series trucks) - Uses part 10383321 for the blinker and warning light relay. There are several retrofit options on
here for replacement on another GM truck - I am not exactly sure where this is on the H2.
H2 08-09 - In these trucks the blinkers are controlled by the BCM and not by a relay. This means that the only way to correct hyperflash is to add load to the line that the lights are on. Most high quality lights will come with load units that plug in and provide the additional resistance. If they don't, then resistors need to be added to the line. Here is a good
