Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Replace the OEM brake light switch this morning. Couldn't find an ACDelco so trying a Standard SLS303.

I tend to dissect old parts to see what failed, if anything. Really surprised that even the OEM One just snaps together. The interesting thing is that switch makes five separate connections. Probably one for cruise control, one for brake lights, one for the shift interlock, and the other two I have no idea.

One for the ECM maybe? For the ABS?

Anyway that's replaced. Still waiting on a new harness that goes down the bottom of the shifter. So I'll probably take that next weekend.
Interesting Robert.
That could be my problem with the Cruise going off and on. I wonder if there is an opening to squirt some contact enhancer like De-Oxid D5 in there? Does it appear like some juice could be shot in there...any openings?

With a magnifying glass upon disassembly it appears the contacts are worn.... Evidence of some arcing in there, with black residue. Inexpensive part, to go through the hassle of laying on your back..... With the chair set up to put your feet on so you're not working so much backwards leaning..... I wouldn't want to go through that just to clean it and find out it didn't do the trick. Definitely replace with new.

Yep, If there's anything I hate it's working upside down under the dash. I'm referring to my 65 Corvette. I usually remove the driver seat and use a small pillow for my head, At least the HUMMER H2 has more room and the seat will go back and the head part will lay down some. Right now it seems to be working everytime i hit the cruise. Might be that it's just hot out. Who knows.

I would ask you to take a pic of where that switch lives ....but I wouldn't wish that on the Iraniens ...LO.L.

Just follow your foot brake pedal upward to wear it hinges and connects to the push rod going into the master cylinder. I placed a chair right outside the driver's door that was open, a body pillow on the floor in front of the driver's seat and laid on my back, feed on the chair outside with my knees bent. But hey, I'm 62 here in one week and I don't like arching my back backwards wedged in somewhere anymore. It's clearly visible, and you're basically doing it with one hand. Not enough room to get two hands in there. Not that bad, except when the retaining clip goes flying behind the under dash fuse box. Got lucky, reach back there with my hand and found it.

If you're old like me you remember distributors with the point set inside. They get burned up, pitted and you start to get misfires. We used to take a little file to smooth out the carbon points, and run them some more. Every time you push the brake pedal there's five of those points making contact and transmitting power. I have under 120,000 miles on the H2.... So I guess the original lasted long enough.

Never thought of the outside chair thing. Good Idea. And I'm 81...but I do work out at Planet Fitness. I work the lower back and Abbs as well as the legs. 2 times a week. So I'm good on the back thing. The problem is ...My Mind. You get to a Point when you just hope it will go away. Of course I come from the points and Distributor erro. We use to get a Match book cover and run it between the points to clean them up. Anything not to have change them out and dela with dwell angle and the rest of the tune up..

But you know what? I miss those days. I have MSD EFI on the BB 502. Sometimes I wish I would just have kept my Barry Grant Double Pumper Carb when it starts acting up. Not all the time but when it does I might as well be dealing with the HUMMER and 10 Bazillion Bits of Computer Data. I got tire of changing Oil and Filter in the Vette... Now I just take it in an Pay the man.

LOL, so which one do you think I actually prefer working on?

2 years ago I finished building the 1986 CJ7, with a generation one small block Chevy, Edelbrock performer manifold and Holly 600 CFM. Built a turbo 350 transmission..... Built my own harness and replaced all gauges, complete drivetrain rebuilt. No computer crap, and it simply just works. Why can't they build anything that reliable these days?

But the Hummer really is in a class of its own. I find it more comfortable than my wife's 2014 Escalade. (So does she!) I've gone through the Hummer as well, it's actually been extremely reliable. And in a wicked snowstorm going over Santiam Pass in the middle of January, it's no contest..... The H2 is quite stable and has never failed to take on anything I throw at it.

I absolutely cringe when I look at the new vehicles. Everything is become so overcomplicated, I think reliability has gone down the drain.

..... I still keep my Sunpro timing light and dwell meter hanging on the wall!

Nice Jeep... And your right..I've thrown a lot of ruff roads and weather conditions at the 2. The Vette is sweet but I still feel the safest and the go anywhere feeling in the 2.

And yes, I have all my old school stuff to do a 1965 tune up on the old gack. I must digress... I still like tweaking the old stuff.
But the Vette gives me that Rush when you stomp it in 2nd. I can't do that in first or I'd be picking up chassis parts.

Very, very nice. And it even looks like an engine. Not hidden under flimsy plastic coverings. Back when intake manifolds were actually made of metal, LOL.

I Like the part about the intake Manifold...LMAO.....But.. Who puts a Marine motor in a car? I Do...L.O.L. The 502 you see in that pic is Gen #1. Has No Meck Fuel Pump Boss..and No Clutch Cross Shaft Ball stud to mount a Shaft. It was developed for Marine use. GM took a 454 and stroked it to 502 CID. And then installed a roller camshaft. But oddly enough the used stamped steel rocker arms????

The whole idea was that the motor produced 570 Ft Lbs of torque at 3800 RPM where boat motors like to run at. 502 HP came in at about 4800 rpm with a red line of 5500. GM started selling a bunch to Chevy dealers. They were miffed so they called a Chevy Dealer up and asked why they were buying Marine motors.

The Dealers told them to get with the program as all were going into Hot Rods. So GM started the 502 Gen series...now up to Gen 6. They now come with Fuel Pumps and ball studs for the clutch.

You can feel the torque when you step on it. One company made an adapter plate for the Ball stud so you could use a clutch set up. The fuel pump issue was solved using a (at the time) Carter $79.00 electric fuel pump mounted on the frame rail behind the rear tire.

Now using a "Tanks" Fuel tank with a Waterboro in tank EFI high pressure pump. It does have Edelbrock Intake and Heads. GM likes to use there stuff

I think what you need is the New GM 632 1000 HP to drop in the Jeep....Or the H2 ....LMAO.

I had the 502 in my 1976 Cadillac Eldorado. And it was front wheel drive. Two-door. I'll bet each door probably weighed 200 lb or more. The back seat was a real chick magnet, lol. That thing was a huge beast, you could probably fit eight bodies in the trunk. And it really picked up speed once you passed 70 miles per hour. God I miss that car And all the different backseat guests I had
