Default Shifter Locked and door locks jumpin'

Hi, will consider this as my first post, since I have originally registered a long time ago and only created a post to introduce myself...

I have always had a great time with my 2007 H3 and very little problems, most was the usual known..(radiator leaking, Hi/Lo fork in transfer case, key sensor...)
Up till recently....:

1. When I start my car, it starts normally. Shifter in P
2. than the door locks will immediately lock
3. the light of the gear position in the dashboard goes OFF.
4. Cannot press the shift **** and thus cannot move out of P
5. sometimes the door locks will start flipping from locked to unlocked en vise versa
6. I can manually unlock the shifter by pressing the ****, overriding the solenoid.
7. When the door locks start flipping I can also here the solenoid engaging/disengaging
8. The brake lights work normally, I did replace the brake light switch at the brake pedal some time ago. But had no issues after that.

When I later stand still and move in to P, again the door locks will start flipping.

Any recommendations? I have searched the forum a bit and found similar issues and checked the range selector lever cable, but all seemed fine.

The car has 197.000km on it.

Sounds like a potential BCM problem. Do you have a sunroof, has it leaked down onto the passenger floor?

Don’t have a sunroof.
I did check all the connections of the BCM and cleaned the contacts of the connectors. Same at the power train control module.
It may be wiring, but don’t know where to start.

We had a similar situation and replaced all the door switches. That took care of ours.

Just going to make a suggestion and look into the transmission range selector. Sounds more like a BCM problem as the doc says. Happy makes a interesting point as well. You could try unplugging all of the door switches. Hmmmm... Let us know what you find.

Thanks for your replies.
I will definitely check out the door locks and the range selector.

Most of the cable guides have gone hard and fall apart. Wouldn’t be surprised to find a damaged wire somewhere.

Sounds like a bad neutral safety switch under the shifter boot. Or the wires that attach to it.

Could not find a neutral switch under the shifter boot.

BUT it was close enough.
The problem is fixed. It was the connector of the PND switch at the LH side of the gearbox.
Several pins were corroded. For now I cleaned all with contact cleaner and everything works, but will make search for the pins or find a new connector.

Thanks for all your inputs and the time!

That connector probably goes into the the transmission range sensor or neutral safety switch depending on what you want to call it. Google some images to confirm. You can buy the connector repair kit and the switch. Rock Auto called it neutral safety switch/range sensor connector and the neutral safety switch/range sensor. Other auto parts suppliers may also have the pieces. I would recommend an AC Delco switch/sensor, but that is totally up to you.
