My wife's 08 is at the local shop for the tranny and converter swap from Street Smart Transmissions. Might have it back by Friday. I like that there's no core charge and they handle all the shipping. All I do is email them when the old unit is boxed up and they send a shipping label to the shop and dispatch the freight boys to pick it up. Can't wait to see how it drives.

Install went smoothly, no issues. Street Smart made it easy getting and returning the tranny and my shop did an excellent job on the install. Tranny hasthe latest updates from GM which covers the issue I was having. Only glitch was it had to be prgrammed by GM before it could be driven so it had to go on a flatbed to get there from the install shop. $110 for that but USAA covered it.

It's still learning our driving style but I can already tell the difference going down the mountain to town, 5000 feet vertical over about 12 miles. 4th gear now keeps the truck from running away on all but the steepest sections. Shifts from reverse to drive are smoother and less of a lag. Happy so far.

Now I just need to replace the radiator and maybe separate out the tranny cooler like a lot of peeps here have done. Temps get up around 230º climbing back uphill but the rest of the time it stays right at 210º.

Very nice truck, same color as mine. As far as transmissions, I just installed a used one for $1400 with about $600 in labor. I would probably go same route as you did though, better to have that 3 year warranty and peace of mind. Enjoy the ride, I know what you mean.
