Hummer H2For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.
Well I figured it was about to get me as I had trouble with it a couple times in the recent past so sure enough last night I jumped in the H2 to head home and it would not shift out of park. I listened for the click when pushing the brake pedal, nothing and the shifter button would not depress so it would not shift out of park.
After calling the wife to come get me (was close to home) I got to thinking about what the solenoid actually did and decided to pop the shift cable off the trans linkage and see if I could manually shift into drive and sure enough I was able to put the truck into drive. My next thought was where does the TCM get the mode info PRNDM1 from, the shifter gates or the trans and would the ECM allow me to drive the truck if the TCM thinks its in park. I started the truck set the E=brake and slid under the truck and put it into drive, jumped in and drove it home with no issues. I haven't put the scanner on and tried to figure out where it gets the mode info but the only thing in the console at the shifter is the cable so I'm fairly confident it gets the info from the trans.
I popped the console cover off and sure enough there were 2 broken wires and 1 hanging on by maybe 2 strands, the broken wires were broken within the exterior insulation sleeve but as soon as I tugged on them they broke in half, the 3rd wire pulled from the crimp area of the connector. The parts houses list a replacement connector with pigtails but none in my area had it so I opted to un-pin mine and repair it.
Very good information. Thanks for sharing. I have a 09 SUT myself. Hopefully, I don't get caught up in this situation, but I've heard this is a common problem for all H2 model years.

Neal,
I did a thread or mentioned this here on the Forum before. There is a replacement Heavy Duty plug in harness available ..(don't know if it still is)...that has Teflon wires that are thicker than the stock ones, The problem is that harness (Stock One) travels back and forth as you move the shifter. Eventually causing the wires to break.
I installed one and also a relay on the ground wire feeding the solenoid and added a foot switch on the floor near the e-brake corner. This way I can lock it in park as the relay fires and breaks the ground. Can prevent you from a Gun Point Hi jack. Just Stomp on the switch in park and give up the keys and Beat Feet....L.O.L.
