I have a 2001 6.5 TD that is completely stock (as far as I know) and the oil reads extremely high. I just completed my first DIY oil change on this vehicle and put 7.5qts in (I know the capacity is 8qts but I wanted to make sure not to over fill). When I went to check the dipstick it read about 1/2in the full mark at operating temp. I have the correct dipstick which is part #10149606 and I let the oil drain for over an hour. The dipstick was checked after the oil was drained and it came out clean. I also measured the drained oil and it came to around 6qts. This is odd because the oil read high before I did the change. Am I missing something here? It seems to be driving fine ~100 miles on it since the oil change; no engine/oil light. The pressure reads at the quarter mark when idling and at 3/8 - 1/2 when driving. The vehicle has spent the majority of the past decade in storage, but it is driven at least once a year. The last oil change was less than 4 years ago and it has seen less than 500 miles since. Could this have anything to do with it? Any information is appreciated. Thanks.
