checked my oil today and it was way above where it should be. i had noticed this about a month ago but didnt think much of it.... now im remembering an outboard engine on my boat with oil levels to high.. the gas was leaking into the oil somehow and it was big $ to repair. hoping this isn't the case. Gonna do an oil change tomorrow and make sure i put the right amount in.

any ideas what the problem might be? or is it probably just the mechanic putting to much oil in the last oil change?

not alot of ways to increase the level but by over filling, as long as it dont come out milky (coolant & oil), how much over was it?

 

Are you taking it back to the same place for the oil change? If so check the level before you leave...

 

I had it happen to me recently. Took my Cadillac to an oil change place and the guy just assumed what engine was in it instead of reading it. He put 3 quarts too much oil in it! Luckily I caught it. The guy actually argued with me about what engine I had in my car! It wouldn't have been so bad it not for the big Cadillac crest on top of the engine cover with the size marked right on it.
