neal.....yes the surface is a 3.0 port and i did buy a 2.0 adapter...still nothing....i have got as far as the quote you listed up top...but the tech2win just will not work with it....i am sure there is a way to make it work we just havent figured it out yet!!

 

Might never get it to work. Some software serial port emulators just never seem to work right with some particular systems USB controller. I work on a lot of industrial systems and have run into that on more than one occasion. Most of the time they do work fine but once in a long while I'll run into one. There are other things to look out for as already mentioned like making sure what serial port (com #) the VX is showing up as in device manager and whatnot. The other thing is some very old software like Tech2Win also has to be happy with the emulated serial port, the Windows version must allow proper control of the emulated hardware to the old program, etc. A lot of little factors that can make these things painful. Part of the reason I still keep an older laptop that has a real serial port (and runs Windows 7).

 

i keep an old Dell Latitude D620 just for that reason. it was one of the supported machines for the tech2 it has a com port and it has the slot to accept the tech 2 program card

 

bonxteck....yes on the Dell D620...that's one of the 2 laptops i have....and it does work well with the tech2win.....i just have the surface that is smaller and lighter so i was trying to get it going for the sake of ease....i have still been messing with the surface a little each day and still getting the same results.....no pop us on the tech2win to pick the "mdi" or the "emulator"....i'll keep on using the Dell

i still believe the surface will work but i am almost ready to put it in storage and wait until i find that person that was able to get one going...i'm sure it's happened already but i just havent found it yet

 

I've been using Dell laptops & desktops for over 30yrs. Never had an issue using them, yet upgraded many times, and sent many outdated to the curb. Currently using 5 Dell computers, without any issues.
