Rear window defogger inop after BCM swap

Nope. I figure it would just made it harder if I ever need to open it up again. What I did do is mummify the BCM in about a yard of Saran wrap. And more importantly I cleaned out the passenger side sunroof drain and drilled out that stupid grommet like all the Youtube videos show. (Can't even find the driver's side drain). And I'm keeping it in the garage now.

I asked Eric at Spartan Autoworx about this. He graciously offered to find me another BCM and flash it with the contents of my original PROM. A week later he had one and shipped it to me. I plugged it in and now the Honda Pioneer 1000-5 Rear Window defogger works again. Yay! And the right backup light now works. But the left one still doesn't. And when you step on the brake both turn signal indicators come on (but not the actual turn signal lights). I'm like, huh?
So it's pretty clear there was some issue in the first replacement BCM I tried. But the second one from Spartan isn't quite right either. At this point I'd take it to a dealer but I already know what they're going to say: you need a new BCM but they're discontinued so we can't help you. I could try yet another used BCM but it's not clear that would work any better. I sure wish I could track down a NOS BCM. Sigh.

A Battery disconnect is not going to reset any H3/H3T BCM, it will cause them to reboot, which might clear a glitch.
If you are just getting an occasional air bag fault light, you can clear the BCM by placing the vehicle in Neutral, engine running, put one foot on the brake and hold it there, push the Emergency brake on with the other foot and release it, repeat the E brake and release 5 times fairly quickly.

Your cloned BCM likely isn’t fully configured or hasn’t completed all necessary resets. Check the fuses and relays for the rear defogger and backup lights, ensure the BCM is properly programmed for your H3T’s options, perform a battery disconnect to reset the BCM, and verify all grounds and wiring near the BCM. Once fully configured and reset, those outputs should work.
