where is everyone mounting their jerry cans?
It sucks that for all us hummer guys that there aren't many parts made for our trucks like there are for jeeps. I recently purchased a jerry can which although I don't go offroading places that are long distances from civilization that I wouldn't be able to go get fuel I like the looks of having a jerry can and I like knowing if I need it I could use it. My plans are to fab up a way of mounting it side ways next to the spare. I should have this project done within the next couple of weeks but in the mean time I'm curious to see what everyone is doing.
i have been considering going this route....RotopaX Mounting Bracket Solutions | Tire Mount. its meant for a jeep but with some small mods you can convert it to work with the h3 spare. They sell a plate that mounts to it to hold their own style cans but can still be altered to hold a jerry can.
You asked for ideas so this is what I carry. One gas and one water and a cooler.

I wanted mine up high to reduce the possible rear ender from exploding the can.
I ended up needing it on the Mojave trail.
It can also be needed if you go all the way to the end of Padre Island to the cut.
This is an idea someone came up with but pulled it when the concern of liability came up.
He advertised it for awhile as a "water can" carrier. It is sort of like a lower version of my upper rack bracket.

But again, it's in the "crumple zone"

So far, mine ride on top - I keep looking at putting them next to the tire; but I keep coming back to some overzealous cop getting me for obstructing the tail lights.... There is space, as it were, behind the rear axle and the bumper that might make a good spot for a spare tank... but honestly, I don't know and I'll be very interested to see what other clever solutions there may be.
