Default Weather stripping

Noticed this stripping piece loose. Got the local dealer to look at it when I got my truck serviced and they said it could be fixed for $500+ dollars, the service manager said that was a lot and recommended it wasn't hurting anything. My big concern was leaking, which he assured me it wouldn't. The right side has a tight fit and I can't tell what is holding that seal down in place. This loose stripping will not tuck under the plastic housing shown. Has anyone had this issue / or replaced this stripping? From what I can tell it won't leak, but I would like to eventually replace it… Thanks

Are you sure it is out and not torn?
To me, it looks like the weather stripping torn from it being tucked underneath.
Possibly by a good hard pass at the local automatic quickie wash?
I wouldnt worry about it.
But if it is a concern, a little exterior sealant/caulk and a little work with a mini flat head should solve it all. (especially for something you really cant see well)

Personally though 500 dollars seems severely excessive..... Probaby the Hummer Tax.

I would get a tube of Permatex Ultra Black silicone and run a bead next to the plastic trim and glue it back on. Quick and easy. The other option would be to swing by a body shop and ask them to do it. Body shops have lots of different epoxys and it shouldn't be a big deal. No way would I spend $500 to fix that.

I'm not sure that is weatherstripping or actually sealing anything out more than just for looks-to make a seamless transition from the side roof rails to the metal body at the top.

I could be wrong as I've never had my side rails off.

You may be correct, that plastic piece is very rigid and will not be glued back. I'm not sure what anchors it in because the other side is very tight fit. I must be missing a screw or bracket that holds that piece under the plastic housing below the rear market light. My biggest issue was leaking which I'm almost positive that won't happen. My second issue is fixing it and making it look right. I have a friend who owns a body shop so I'll see what he says. Thanks.
