Default Want to upgrade the audio/video

Was out on construction inspection for the company work for and was assigned a 2016 Z71 Silverado (nice ride). Anyways that's where i got introduce to the ability of projecting a cell phone to the audio system screen.

2006 H3 adventure/lux package. I want to upgrade to a system that allows projection of cell to system screen, similar to the one in the Silverado. I do not want to hack the dash or wiring harness. BTW the existing system in the H3 has the little screens in the back of the front headrest but would trade that function for a backup camera ability.

I'm totally unfamiliar with audio systems, so I'm looking for suggestion from the house guro on the subject on what i want and if it's even feasible.

Thanks ahead of time.

The best way to get the the connection to a head unit is to find a system with Apple Carplay or Android Auto. Many manufactures are making these available in their vehicles. Buying a head unit for a 2016 Z71 Silverado and installing it in your Hummer is nearly impossible. To get the same experience in your H3 would require an aftermarket head unit. Pioneer makes head units with AppRadio. Talk to an installer at a reputable stereo shop about your wants and needs. Check on Pioneer's website to see what can be done. Even a basic AppRadio head unit can do plenty. From simple music to full on GPS from your cell phone.

I was looking at replacing the head unit in my H3 a while back. There are a lot of options out there to look at. Take a look at Crutchfield - they can pretty much show you everything you need to get to make the changes you want including various direct-fit or universal-fit head units and (if needed) brackets, harnesses and connectors, adapters, antennas, faceplates, hardware and so on. Their telephone support for picking a system as well as installation is good.

I eventually went a different route for what I needed but I've used them for other vehicles.

It is also backup camera capable.

Cohiba. Trying to install a modern factory stereo into an older vehicle is a cause for headaches. Even if the plugs fit, most of the functions will disappear, if it turns on at all. Radios are now mated electronically to the vehicle. The radio will know it is in the wrong vehicle. Here is an example of how the radio is connected to the vehicle. On a 2017 F150 if you drive without a seat belt the radio mutes and won't allow for volume control until the drivers seat belt is buckled.
