VIDEO of my front diff blowing-up!!!!!
I dunno man but your spotter should have told you to stop moving after the 1st snap! I can't believe you kept driving! It wasn't as if you were going to roll back or stuck over a boulder like in my situtation. It did look a little aggressive, but no different than my driving - LOL!
Here's some pics of my rig when I snapped my tierod -now this was inclined and the boulder on my rightwhich I was trying to crawl over was almost as bigas the vehicle itself!!!

The hill we were on was seriously steep!! We left it like this to make it easier to yank out the tierod and head back down the mountain to have a friend weld it. You can tell by the pic how inclined my H3 was.

Also, we had more rigs coming up the mountain and didn't wantaserious accident to happen - as you can tell by the pic we had other vehicles coming up and kids out and about.

We used a strap to pull the tire back to the right to make it easier to yank out the tierod...the good thing is we had some experience wheelers there - the guy in the yellow shirt is Rod - President of the Hummer X Club Vegas, the guy in the biege cap and white shirt is Mike - President of the Hummer X Club Hawaii, the guy in blue cap sunglasses and blue shirt is the Shop Foreman for Hummer GM, and the little guy in the brown shirt and brown surfer shorts is Brandon, Hummer GM Technician

Just waiting for my tierod...
I was crawling slow and my spotter was telling me to turn left when I could feel the rig turning right, I didn't trust my instincts and went with my spotters judgement and turned left and SNAP there went my tierod.
I waited about 4 hours before my welded tierod came back, we slapped it in and to make sure nothing else snappedby trying to turn my vehicle around on such rough terrainI ended up goingdown the mountain backwards!!!
This hill is called "The Initiator" a stock H3 and lifted H2 made it up, took the H2 awhile but it made it

I said he was a little aggressive, but the front gears should be better than that!!! Out of tollerance pinion shim was as much if not more to blame than anything blackbear did. It was gonna happen sooner or later?
Well the thing is, blackbear's H3 seems to be stock right? Before my lift I wheeled my H3 even more agressive than what you seen in that video and I got nothing but broken bushings. The day we were climbing the mountain, Rod made it up with no problems in a stock H3. The angle of my tierods and cv shafts because of my lift is maxed out, and because the weak tierods, fighting the vehicle to turn in a direction it wasn't about to go andclimbing up a steep hill is the reasonI think it broke [:@]
Once I get the bullet proof tieriods I am heading up that mountain again - will let you guys know the outcome

Realjeep, perfect words "Anyone who off roads a lot has done something that someone else considers "dumb", there's no text book way to wheel every situation"
And yes GM is trying to save a buck by putting crappy parts in. I really hope that people from GM are reading this post and somebody wakes up over there.
It would be very interesting to know how the other H3 diff's are set-up for backlash, if anybodydoes an oil change it would be real easy tocheck.
Let me know and I will tell you what to look for.

My H3 is not stock, I'm running Toyo MT 35's on there, the failure was not caused from that one day of wheeling it actually started weeks prior to that, I just did not know thatat the time, in your case it is most defiantly the 4" lift you have that's causing the problem, the tie rods from what I've seenare not as a bigof a problem as the differentials are, it's more of a H2 problem.

As for the tierods, man those things are like pencils! It's pretty thin and I have heard of other H3 owners bending it just making a simple turn on the street.
Glad to see another H3 owner wheeling it as much as I do - keep it up bro! And post more pics on the trails!
I did the torsion bar thing at first and then I installed a leveling kit, it's not as rough on the suspension with the kit on. As for the avatar, that picture was taken about 5 mins before I blew my diff LOL!! if you take a good look at the pic and the video you will be able to match it together, theonly thing I photoshoped was the sky.
My front diffs blew through the case at 6000 miles......The whole thing was replaced under warranty due to the alumimin parts and alot of front diffs were breaking. My Service guy says thats what Hummers are for "WHEELIN ". My hummer dealership actucally has 4 wheelingevents throughout the year. They changed the housing in 07. I was on a dirt road not in 4 wheel yet when mine broke. Of course I was with 25 other JEEPS....( only HUMMER) they still raze me about it.....ALong with the time ONSTAR came on and asked me if my airbags went off.....I was wheeling.....on top of a mtn....that whole system had to be replaced. Yes my H3 has had some issues luckly all under warranty.......Still waiting for the new BFG Mt's to come out in the size I want....
