ORIGINAL: Dennis

A few years back when I worked in the field..The company car had those Deer whistles too..One time I was parked out in a rual area and came out to the car and two or three Deer where taking turns blowing on them..so they do work...
Not to tread on your joke but our company put the whistles on all of our busses and the number of deer hit this year was less then half of the previuos year. They really do work well. I put a set on Godzookie and I hope they deter the deer as well as they do on the busses...(fingers & nutscrossed)[X(]
In addition.. our company also (believe it or not) put us through a deer hitting training (didn't even knowthis trainingexsisted but it does) Basically what they said was if the hit is inevitable then hit it do not swerve and no not hit the brake keep you foot on the accellerater and hit it...Their veiw a bus carries 52+ passengers Swerving could make you loose control and crash...hitting the brakes hardlowers the front of the vehicle up to 4 or more inches as a result can could considerable amounts of dammage to the vehicle not to mention throwing people on to the floor etc. (Busses do not have passenger seat belts) So by hitting it the result is 52+ people alive and 1 dead deer.

Now I have hit deer in the bus many times and they were correct...the times I hit deer when applying the brakes caused more injuries and damage to the bus then hitting them with the accelerator mashed on the floor and hitting them...for the most part they just get suck up under the bumper and get shot out the back (usually in peices) yuk!

Now I realize that busses are large vehicles and they are looking at the safety issue of the passengers but I wonder if the same principle would work in a smaller vehicle in relation to the hard hitting of the brakes (which is a natural reaction) and the lowering of the front bumber causing the animal to project upward into the windsheild...I am wondering if you hit the gasprior inpact would the animal get sucked under the bumper as they do in the bus??? I've thought more than once if I hadn't hit the brakes so hard the critter would have bounced off the front rather than sliding up the hood and onto the windsheild...
