Default Replacing Lug studs on Hummer H3 2006

How do you remove the backing plate on front brakes to get enough room to place new lug studs in?

You have to remove the wheel bearing to remove the backing plate. See the illustration below.

OK, that means removing the nut holding the bearing in place? And what size socket would that be and how do I go about doing that? I've never replaced them on a Hummer before.

Not with a unit bearing assembly that the H3 uses up front.

Bull, We have replaced several studs thanks to the usual overzealous idiots at tire stores. Just rotate the wheel, bang the stud out, use some washers and an extra lug nut to suck the new one in. Easy fix, if irritating.

Never changed just one. TThat would be a pain to replace all 5.

I perfer to use a press and replace them all.
