Default Proud new owner Grenade Green H3 - couple quick questions

Hi all,

Been wanting one of these forever and finally pulled the trigger.

I am the proud owner of a 2006 H3 - Grenade Green w/ Grenade Green interior.

Couple quick questions I could not find the answer to browsing the forums:

At night, none of the illumination lights up, anywhere but the speedometer. Window switches, entire center stack, nothing. Any idea if this is a fuse or wiring problem?

At all times, the red car with the padlock is illuminated. But the vehicle starts right up every time. Any idea what gives?

Cant wait to start modding, and proud to be a member of the community!

Congrats and welcome.

Check the fuses first. Bulbs burn out, search on how to replace them.

The padlock is telling you the vehicle has a passlock issue. Search it. It could be a faulty ignition switch, or several other things. A prior owner may have bypassed it, or if you have an aftermarket alarm/remote starter, whoever installed it wasn't so knowledgeable.

Thanks for your response. I checked every fuse under hood... and nothing. Is there another fuse box located somewhere in the truck? And any idea which actual fuse controls the backlight illumination for all the devices on the truck?

Also, I noticed this today.

In the middle of a car wash. I take it all the sunroof drains are clogged?

Ok, well Im really starting to think I need a new body control module now.

The truck has no running lights, front or rear, but the headlights, brake lights, and speedometer illumination all work properly.

The dimmer switch does nothing but turn on the footwell lights when all the way up.

Im really starting to think its a body control issue now - when I hit the button on one of the overhead dome lights, it comes on, and so do the driver and passenger footwell lights.

Personally I'd take it back lol. Way to many issues for a car just bought.
Yes drains clogged.
Yes you'll probably need a new BCM.
Yes there is more wrong...Did I mention that the BCM will need programing?
Chris
Congrats!

Haha! I got it for a STEAL off some older guy on craigslist. Luckily, I work at a late model high performance domestic sport car and truck auto yard, and have access to a Tech2 and I own a DS708. Guess I'll put the BCM on order friday!

Heres another one for ya. When I am coming down to a stop, every time, the engine stumbles a little bit then smooths out. It's also smooth when leaving from a stop. I'm thinking maybe plugs/wires/coils? Any known issues like that?

Welcome to HF.

1. You have a clogged or dislodged sunroof drain leaking on your BCM.
2. If you have a Tech2, that's half the battle won!
3. Stumbling: clean TB, MAF, check manifold (plenum) bolts, make sure coil packs are on tight and plugs have not become rusty. Those items should help a lot.
4. The GM color is Shadow Green Metallic.
5. Post up some pix, love the Greenies. Got any MOD plans?

Proud owner of an I5 2006 here! Towing Lux model with towing package.

Welcome to the club. Long time lurker here - so much good information can be found here. Just did some work on my I5 3.5L. It was hesitating, had a stumble/miss(no codes) during idle(153K on the odo). Changed the plugs OEM AC Delco #12625085, cleaned the throttle body with TB cleaner, cleaned the MAF with MAF cleaner. WOW! What a difference that made! I have some interesting pics of the fouled plugs.

Almost forgot, had a shop replace the Thermostat a few months ago(it was throwing a coolant temp code), but after they did that they found a leak at the top of my radiator. I replaced the Rad myself and since then, No Codes!

Always have had and still have random smoke at startup - smells like oil(looking at possibly valve guide seals or valve cover/pcv) but other than that I've put 50K on this beast and couldnt be happier...I'm taking this old girl to 200K+
