Clean it very well. Spray 3-5 light coats. And let it dry.
If you like the look of the black and want something that will last longer (without breaking the bank) use Rockerguard on it.
Ive had plastidip on my grille for over a year with no problems. Also have Rockerguard on the hood louver, but the hood louver fell off haha! Ill bolt it down in the summer

After a while it faded and started looking horrible. I peeled all that crap off, prepped everything and painted them all low gloss black engine enamel. The fuel door I did with VHT black crinkle coat.

Plasti Dip is great if you want to see how something looks. It may even last a while but at some point you'll be ripping the junk off and doing something permanent.
YES! I love it black. Would never consider going back to chrome...

Where did you get the low gloss enamel and how much? Also, what grit sandpaper did you use and how else did you prepare it?

It's worth it to me to find a more permanent solution; I don't want to have to redo this ever again haha.

Whatever you decide to do just make sure you read the directions and what the temperature is supposed to be. And also read about prepping the surface properly. That temperature was way too cold for sure to be using most any kind of paint. Also, just pulling it into a heated garage, you can't paint right away, you have to let the surface to be painted heat up to the temperature also.

I have never used plasti dip, but have heard others that I trust on here that have used it with success. But just like with any other kind of paint, you must follow all directions to do it right. I do like them black, but I have never had luck with painting any plastic parts and it lasting well. But that's just my experience.

yeah depending on your location and unless you can take the grill off and keep it in a warm 70 degree or warmer place for at least a day you may not be able to paint until spring. paint is very particular to its environments, it may spray out of he can ok but it is not going to adhere or lay down correctly if it's anywhere below the 60s

As mentioned you definitely need to wait a bit until its warmer. Check any auto parts store for the Duplicolor low gloss black engine enamel. You can see my build threads for what the color looks like if you so please. Also I didn't use sandpaper but a prep pad-the red 3M pad.

So I went crazy this morning and went a totally different direction, but all of these suggestions helped immensely. I looked up the local Line-X dealer and it's currently being Line-X'd. I saw an example of somebody else that did this and, knowing I will never go back to chrome, this seemed like a durable, high quality, great looking solution.

I will take pics once it's done for those that may be interested. Cost was $60.

That's definitely the best route to go. I want to Line-X my fender flares and a bunch of other parts down the road. Can't wait to see the pics!

Here it is! I changed the turn signals to clear LED units, so it looks even more different than it did prior to LineX... but you'll get the idea.

There's definitely a texture difference between Plastidip and LineX (the Plastidip was more similar to the bumper than the LineX), but I still like the look. Some people might prefer to LineX the bumper as well.
