Oil warning light on my h3
Thanks for moving my post to the right place..... I have a '06 H3 with 250,000 miles and recently have been getting the red low oil pressure lamp when come to a stop at idle. If I give it just slightly enough gas to bring the rpms from the 600-700 up to 900-1000 it will turn right off. On a cold start it doesnt seem to do it but i also noticed that the idle is a bit hight on a cold start and then in slowly drops to 600-700 rpms.........
cold oil=higher pressure. 250000! warm oil and worn bearings, oil pressure drops at low rpm, jumps up at high rpm. all my old hi mileage cars did that.
my guess is a worn motor, 250000huh???
i had a van at 143000 coasted to a stop when oil pressure went so low it wouldnt pump up the lifters, one rod bearing was the worst.
i put in a long block.
you can try 10w30 or 20w40,,,for a while. i ran 20w50!!but in winter it wouldnt drain down to the pan till it got warm, finally died at 143000.

lol um before looking for a new engine make sure of the oil level. My light came on once and I was like a quart or two down. Topped it off back to normal level and all has been well. Never did figure out why it was so low and have not had any problems or water in oil etc.. just a gremlin getting thirsty I guess. Anyway check the oil level first.
Check your oil pressure sensor. Under 50 bucks and takes 15 minutes to swap out. Had the same problem.
years ago i could buy a brass"t" that would allow use of the regular sending unit and a mechanical guage on ford engines.
i cannot identify the threads used on the h3 oil sender, seems like an odd size, not sae or metric.
id like a real guage like the good old stewart warner 2 inch with copper tubing!
thread type???
