Hi All,

I'm a forum member for my Chrysler but now the H2 as I've got a problem and need to look for some advise or feedback on others having the same issue. I have a white 2004 2H2 that we love. Its got the adventure package and has 90k miles on it. I gues I need to fine the right place to post my question but if anyone can help me I have an issue with my Emmissions failure light on in the dash and now a terrible rattle noise in the cat.

Umm well the rattle noise in the cat is probably the honeycomb brick. When it wears or rattles, it breaks apart and gets looser and looser. This honeycomb is responsible for burning excess fuel that your vehicle doesnt burn. Some times if the vehicle is running rich or misfiring, the motor pushes excess fuel to the cat and turns it into a torch which melts the brick inside. I havent ventured much into my H2. Just got it. I dont even know if it has more than one cat , "pre cats". Id make sure the vehicle is running on all 8 cyls."Tune Up" If that checks ok then replacing the cat would be te best bet. I think the emission failure light might have something to do with a rich mixture, bad sensor in the engine. My two cents from a backyard mechanic for what its worth.

 

Welcome, Sounds like an easy fix issue. New cat. New O2 sensor and while your down there, Toss in a good set of flowmasters or your fav. sounding muffler. Any way you lokk at it, its a good reason to get an upgrade while telling the wife its really just a repair job. lol. You know how us guys are.
