Default New to me 04 hummer h2 31k original miles CEL

Hey just picked up a cream puff 04 hummer h2 with 31k miles. White with lux for a steal and got home with a p0449 Evap code which from what I've read could be a couple things but trying to narrow since I can smell gas by the cap. I'm obviously going to start at the cap itself but would anything else cause this? No leaking or visible fuel that I can see.

I had same issue on my 03 it was the fuel sensor located on top of gas tank.

You had same code and smelt gas around the rear? First just smelled it around the gas cap but now not general around the rear but that could just be it spreading..

I didn't smell gas though. I had changed the gas cap but that didn't fix it so I changed the sensor and no more codes. Try the cheapest and easiest fix first.

I agree on checking the simple stuff first, always a smart thing. Speaking of smart, I had an '05 Smart Passion that smelled heavily of gas only after filling up. That turned out to be a leaking fuel pump unit. But it was a clue that I only smelled it when the tank was full. So follow the clues and your nose on this one.

I started smelling fuel after a fuel filter change. Due to fiddling with the lines. The fuel sending unit tube snapped on top of the tank. Its in a bad spot. Moisture, sand, mud and salt all sit on top of it and corrode it. Everytime i wash my deuce i spray it off.

That's what happened to mine except no access to factory hard lines since the nub broke off inside the clip so put in rubber fuel injection lines and clamps hopefully won't leak anyone ever use them?

so i used the rubber to see what would happen and no lights and runs great issue im having is weird and wondering if its cause the rubber hose. it will rev up as high as i want and it will gradually gain rpms over 4-5k but when im on the road and hit the gas hard to floor it revs to 3500 and then falls on its face and stays at 3500. could this be rubber lines collapsing under load only or something else? fuel filter? not sure where to start..
