Default New ignition switch

I have a 2006 H2 that i believe has a bad ignition switch after reading up on the forums and trouble shooting the codes. My question is, if anyone has replaced there own, and if so does the steering wheel need to come off. The reason i ask is i am not a fan of messing with air bags. The switch it self doesn't look very tough at all. Matter of lining up the gears really is the only thing that i see on it. Any input would be great.

not sure specifically for the H2 but I have done other newer vehicles. Just disconnect the battery and you'll be fine. Most airbags are secured by spring lock/bolts that just have to be turned to release the airbag portion of the steering wheel. What even worse is messing around with the huge passenger airbag.....

I was able to get it off with out having to take the steering wheel off. Broke a couple of little clip things in there but was pretty easy over all once I just decided to do it.
