I did not have a problem with folding just mirror adjustment.
The motor on my passenger 08 won't adjust. Can you tell me how you fixed it.

If you check out a YouTube video these pics will make sense. It's really self explanatory after that. Mine would not fall apart like the videos.
Search for mirror motor replacement and watch a few. They make it way easier than I had it.

Tools I used below and a torx bit I think it was 15

These are looking down from top of mirror.

You need to wedge the long screw driver between the mirror and motor housing or the little clips keep popping back in place or at least mine did. Notice the foam that is the sweet spot. You don't have to wedge it very hard. While you have it wedged pop those clips up around the top and then down the sides. As you start to get a few loose it will pop off all the way around if you put pressure downward on the mirror. Does not require much pressure.

I got my motor assembly from local dealership. It was almost same price as ordering online and I wanted to make sure about the part so I gave my VIN when I ordered at counter. I looked for receipt but can't locate it for part number. The part you need is the whole black round disk. You can't really take it apart and replace the individual motors... I tried

Terds, When i close my Passenger Mirror it always closes too far & touches my window! If i have my window down & close it, it will actually come in a lil' farther! If i tried to raise my window it would be Bad! Something would have to give, is there a way to adjust it so it won't come in so far! Thanks!

After a few cycles of folders it supposed to reset but I bet your past that.

Not sure why it is doing that... You might be able to remove the mirror and gain access to the top of the folding piece where the stops might be (just a guess) something is either loose or broken. I have not disassembled mine any further than the the above post. But, I would certainly start there. If that had no results I would take the whole thing off and break it down to find whats wrong. Hopefully something loose or JB Weldable! Whole mirror assemblies are too high.

Default Power Mirrors - Verdict

Successfully removed mirror-glass fairly easily.

Removed mirror motor assembly, that was easy too.

However the plastic motor drive-gears were damaged, some teeth were stripped and the ends that locate into the housing had broken-off.

So disassembled the motors and drive gear assembly, glued the ends back-on, turned the gears through 180 and re-assembled.

So now there is some movement but its not great.

Does anyone know where to obtain new motor-drive mechanisms?

Might even need complete power mirrors but I've not seen any quite like mine.

Terds, yours sounds like the best solution, do you have any info on the mirror mechanism you bought e.g. supplier and part number?

Cheers!

Oceanbrave, your mechanism sounds different than mine. I could not access any gears at all on mine. Very difficult to take the 2 halves apart. I tried and gave up. However I went to local dealership with the last 5 or 6 digits of the VIN and they pulled up what I needed. I price checked around and the dealer was close enough to other pricing, so I just bought it from them. I don't have handy the part #. I think the mechanism changed in 07 not 100% sure but, my 08 is different from the previous designs.

Thanks for your help.

When I said gears its really a rack and pinion type arrangement (see photo) Indeed the mechanisms were tricky to dismantle as they are "plastic" welded.

Unfortunately there are no GM suppliers here in the UK but I will try the US and see if I can get lucky.
